A Boston, Kansas, dentist's advertisement appearing in the August 15, 1878, Howard Courant-Ledger.
Reference is to Howard City although the town officially dropped the "City" designation the winter previous when it became a 3rd class city.
Residents began fleeing Boston in June 1875 after Howard County became Elk and Chautauqua. Residents began leaving in earnest after the September 1875 Howard County constitutionality decision.
By the time of this advertisement, there were not many people left but apparently the town was still able to draw somewhat such as this dentist.
However, Boston would be dead the following year when the post office moved to Moline.
Where was Boston located??
Four to five miles south of Moline on K-99 at Valley Road (county line between Chautauqua and Elk) and one mile west.
By my reckoning about fifteen miles southwest from Howard.
The town was half in Elk County and half in Chautauqua County when Howard County split.
The town also started the Boston War, i.e., raided Elk Falls and moved the county seat to Boston.
