I thought I would just make a new thread and see what everyone's favorite smells are. My reason for doing this is because I hung my bed linens outside today.
My most favorite smell is sunshine in clothes that have been hung outside on a sunny day.
Another favorite smell is a baby after a bath.
Pie just out of the oven.
Brand new puppy breath.
A spring field of wildflowers.
first thing in the morning my favorite smell is fresh brewed coffee :)
coffee, bacon, fried onions, Night Blooming Cereus, salt spray, wet dirt just as a rain starts, sunshiney sheets, Liacs and Wysteria, my husband.
someone else's cooking, charcoalers going all over town, White Diamonds by Elizabeth Taylor
Fried onions? :P
Diane reminded me:
When I lived in San Francisco and had been out of town, there was always that moment near the end of the flight home where the pilot would open up the port so the outside air could come in and I got my first smell of the ocean air.
I LOVED that smell at that moment.
:)
Yeh, onions, Teresa. When the sub shops around here make cheese steaks, the onions they cook at the same time, on the big flat grill, smell wonderful. To me at least.
charbroiled burgers in the backyard
The smell and great feeling you get when you hug your favorite old horse around the neck.
The smell of homemade bread baking.
You all are making me hungry. Well, maybe not the horse one. I need go cook dinner.
I love walking by somebody who just stepped out of a bath or shower and smells like soap and water.......Not the perfumey ones........altho if a guy!!!Yep a MALE walks in with some Brut or Stetson on, I would/will follow him all over the place........LOL.
You all can have flowery perfume.....I am allergic to it.....and I love gardening and sweet smelling flowers, but the minute I stick my nose into them.......Achoo...and cough, cough
Fresh washed air is another one.
A baby's breath - a spring shower - a cake baking in the oven - fresh baked bread - lilacs - a well seasoned pork roast on the grill...........Oh so many many things --- isn't it wonderful we have the sense of smell????
I love the smell of a fresh mowed lawn and the smell of rain. Lucky me, I've had both today!!!!!!!!!!! :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
A hay field ready for baling

roses
the inside of a new car
the inside of my house when I have been away and am tired. The house has finally become mine but still smells a bit like Millie's house.

Colonel when he is wet

Good job, Sunflower. The smell of a freshly tilled field is pretty much that same smell, and it seems to go on forever. That's a great one.

Old Spice because it reminds me of my Grandpa Hancock and wintergreen Skoal because it reminds me of my Grandpa Furrow.
Fresh baked bread because if reminds me of my Grandma Furrow and the smell of Grandma Hancock's fried chicken.
There is nothing better then smells that remind us of our grandparents.
Good Mornin Jo, it is bone dry here. Lawns are more brown than green. For about 3 weeks we were under a total outside water ban, but have been bumped to the odd/even watering days. It hasn't rained here, except for the odd sprinkle, since the first part of June. I think all the rain has been to the north and east of Toronto. OR, stuck in Kansas! If you look at a map, we are about an hour west of Buffalo, New York, or depending on the traffic, just under an hour west of Niagara Falls.
Linda --- we would be more than happy to share with you. Yesterday afternoon I was on the forum - Well DUH - not unusual --the dark cloud formed in the north west -- thundered twice - and absolutely poured down rain..........Our park is STILL closed to public - and our water is STILL not available the main line is under about 6 foot of water so when it does go down, then they will be able to repair it and we will have water again
Really sets you back on your heels ...makes you more than sorry for the folks in Greensburg and other places that have had disasters. Take care
the smell of the Colorado River when i'm fishing.
and my homemade cinnamon sunrise bread
More from me: evergreens when the sun is hot, especially Balsam Firs, fresh mown grass and hay, salt mud flats when the tide is out, grilled beast of any kind, fresh lemons, burning leaves on an October day, baking bread, elephant breath.
Elephant breath?
Honestly, how often does that come up?
elepahnt breath , how about elephant poo mixed with mud. I went to the Independance Zoo when I was 15 and was told to watch out for the elehpants, but they never said why....the elehpant pickup a mix of poo and we all started to run, but I tripped on a pipe and the elephant sprayed me from my waist down. that is smelly :'(
Not THAT kind of elephant breath... its usually a mix of the odor of fruit, peanuts and hay.
newly mown hay (achoo!)
Honest to Pete-----sometimes this forum just goes completely nuts - so hahahahahaha love it, love it, love it !!! Nutty putty coo-koo.
The smell of my favorite simmering potpourri and fresh lemon anything. Baby magic lotion, and a very clean, chlorinated and balanced swimming pool. "Still"and "Armani Code" perfumes. And my husband's bottle of cologne---which I will keep forever.......
The smell of the cow barn when Grandma was in there milking her cows.
the smell that comes after a spring shower
bread fresh out of the oven
lavender
sun dried laundry
Oh, my. Here we are talking about things that smell so good and the Google ads at the bottom of my screen say,"Hey Stinky Lady " Yuck.
hay, clean laundry, roses, almond oil, hot chocolate cake fresh from the oven, freshly baked bread.
Isn't it funny that favorite smells center around food so often?
Speaking of chocolate cake, Hershey, PA and Lititz, PA always smell like yummy chocolate. When I was little, Mom would take us to Lititz antiquing, and at the edge of town, when your nose picked up that wonderful smell, it would almost carry you along.
The ads at the bottom must be tied in to the thread topics -
Right now there were four of them: Body Odor, Fishy Vaginal Smell, Does Your Breath Smell and Hydrogen Sulfide Removal.
On the "Favorite Sound" thread, the ads at the bottom are Having PC Sound Problems, Ringtones, Real Sounds for Ringtones and Picture Frames for Mom. Not sure where that last one comes in, but it's there!? ;D ;D ;D
Must be something in the Kjell and Teresa set up the forum.
Yes, I noticed that when I first joined. There must be key words that trip the ads to match the threads. Maybe if I say I have a headache it will trip something.
Yup. It's the way that Google Adsense ads work. They look at the content of the page, then serve ads that have someting to do with that page.
Clever, no?
;D
I knew you would know.
There are entire days that pass before me during which I wonder if I know anything at all. In some ways, that is a good thing. Every time you get an answer, it comes with at least two new questions. If "stupid" is having the most unanswered questions, I hope to die the stupidest person of all time.
;D
And your headache post got Medical Records and Obituaries ! ! !
Watch out! ! ! ! ;D ;D ;D
I seem to notice old people smells.......I mean when I go into a house that is occupied by an older person who has lived in that home for a long time......the home takes on the past.
I love walking by an empty house and smelling the oldness of it.....yeah, I think it is mold and mildew and that kind of stuff......but, just think of the memories if that building could talk.
I live at the Longton Housing and must go past the old hotel when I head up to Post office and Cafe, etc and the scent just reaches out to me. Would love to know its history better.
Love yeasty anything.........to smell, to eat. When I had finished my cancer therapy and (my cancer was of the mouth and neck area.....NO CANCER, NOW!!!) I lost my taste buds and saliva and really my appetite... I love pastry of anykind and would not leave a bakery without taking something home.
I use to go into WalMarts and head back to the bakery and open the door to the fresh baked rolls and sweet pastry and just stand there soaking up the memories.
OH, I did start eating again.......but taste is still off......but am getting where I can eat more things with flour and sugar stuff...You know the no flour, no sugar diet, well it does work........I went from a size 18 (could have been 20) to a size 8...........spent a life time dieting to lose.........took a dose of radiation and a few treatments of chemo to do it......But, I am keeping it off.
OH I know I went a different way than the thread......But, I am so proud to be "CANCER FREE"
Had to brag a bit......
Hugs and God bless
But the words "cancer free" do smell good and taste good and look good and sound good. All your senses should rejoice at those words. Congratulations.
BLESS YOU, JUDY --- YOU DESERVE ALL THE BRAGGING THAT YOUR LITTLE HEART DESIRES TO DO
GO FOR IT GIRL --- BRAG AWAY !!!!!
Speaking of which, my friend Missy, half of a couple that I have coffee with twice a week, had a lumpectomy (turned out to be more of a chunk-ectomy) yesterday, and we had coffee today! She was doing just great! Missy is 80. Her husband Harold is 76 or 77. He was an engineering professor and department head at KU. The surgeon is sure he got all of it, took pretty aggressive margins, and the biopsies were all negative. We had one collective sigh of relief at coffee.
I'm glad you're doing well, Jane. For some reason, my taste buds changed after abdominal cancer surgery! There's some things that used to be my favorites that still don't taste right. I well imagine that your experience with it was much worse. It's great to hear your positive attitude and words!
I am so happy for you people. My husbands cancer was untreatable, uncurable. As of a few weeks ago they still have no idea where it comes from, what causes it and no treatment or cure. The name of it was Malignant Fiberious Hystiocytoma. Do know it is hereditery (sp)
I just looked that up, flo. I had never heard of it before. That sounds like very nasty stuff. I am very sorry that it happened that way. I remember my sisters husband was diagnosed with an odd form of cancer and died just five weeks later. It can happen so fast and that is not at all fair. I guess all I can say is that I wish it hadn't happened. I'm sorry if our posts upset you.
Michael
frawg, I have thought about whether to answer this post or not, as it has been 12 years and I still get upset. But that is not your fault and no apology needed. It is something that I have to deal with. Seeing Tammy Faye Messner on TV (why they showed that picture I have yet to figure out) just brought back memories. She weighed 65#, Lewis weighed 85# - He weighed 201# when he was diagnosed - by the way might add that Roe Messner was a cousin of my Dad's, and now that's enough said. Don't get me wrong, as I am happy for anyone that is able to survive any form of cancer because it can be a very horrible thing. End of subject.
I'm sorry too.
I'm sorry too~~..
Lets all keep in mind that for reasons only known to God and your higher self do the people who contact the sickness's and the ones who stand by loving them and caring for them...have to go through those types of karmic life's learning lessons.
It isn't necessarily bad karma either.. just a balancing and learning lesson to help who ever is involved in all the areas become more spiritually advanced. We may not understand it now.. but someday we will.
There are no accidents..and there are no coincidences..and there is nothing we have to go through that we haven't beforehand agreed with God that it is for the benefit of our spiritual souls growth.
( Just my belief) :-*
Ok... my favorite smell is......................................farts!
No not really!!!! Just trying to change the mood of the room.. ;D
But one of my favorite smells is walking into a candle shop. The Yankee candle shops are wonderful and the smell stays in your nose long after you have left the place.
I love the frogs. I just made off with them. ;D
I like to smell the frog legs cooking! Jumping in the pan.
I just saw Kermit hopping away as fast as he could go.
Have I gotten away yet?
< huff, huff, puff >
Yes, you got away, but there's this little kid with a net swishing around the grass by the edge of the pond, so you better lay low.
I am sorry that I caused anyone pain when I shared my feelings about my cancer.
Just 8 months before they found the cancer I lost both my daughter-in-law and my son......Jenny to colon cancer and Bobby to a broken heart......that was called an anuerism...............so when I had to go through the cancer therapy and all that, figured after burying Bob and Jenny I could deal with anything.
They didn't have kids and lived in North Carolina (when Bob got out of Army he was at Fort Bragg and they just stayed there).....I had to go to North Carolina and settle their affairs...........well believe me that was hard too........and without God and my faith that we are where we are meant to be.........I would have given up and let the cancer get me.......NOT..........just wanted to share......and if I stepped on anyones toes or caused one to be sad, I AM SORRY.....I meant no harm...
God bless you.
Teresa, I agree about the smells of a candle/potpori shop -
Candle shops make me sneeze.
;D
Al too, he won't go in.
then I take it that's not your favorite smell
LOL! Well, no, Flo, I guess that it is not. I don't really mind the smells (potpourri in stores does the same thing to me) because sometimes the smell is good. It just that to really smell it, the air has to be going in nice and normally, but it just gets so far before I sneeze and the air is on the way out very quickly. I'm not sure what it is.
think it's a "guy" thing ;D ;D ;D ::)
< nod, nod >
I'm the first to admit that there are a few of those.
;)
I have this thing about potpourri, too --- it really chokes me up. Then I really hate it when my wife buys popourri smelling bathroom spray. I'd just as soon smell the real thing as that perfumed spray!
On that latter subject, I whole-heartedly agree.
;D
hahahahahahahaha
Maybe Teresa needs to trade her not really favorite smell with the two of you for the candle shop.
Ohhh lordy ---- what a threesome you make......
