Hello everone,
I just wanted to ask if there are drive in movies in ks?
There is one at McArthur and S. Hydraulic in Wichita. That is the only one I know of.
And there is one still open just across the state line in Missouri, very near the Kansas City Zoo.
;D

This site is a few years old, but has some good information.
Whoa, good job, kfclark! That's a great site. I don't know where cal007 is, but one of those has to be at least fairly close!
WHEN TALKING ABOUT KANSAS MOVIE STARS, DON'T FORGET MY FORMER FIRST GRADE STUDENT. ANNETTE BENING SHE WAS BORNIN TOPEKA AND MOVED TO WICHITA AT THE AGE OF ONE AND LIVED THERE UNTIL SHE FINISHED THE FIRST GRADE.
I have been to the Starlite Drive-in that is located in Wichita (Wilma gave the address). It has 2 screens and during the summer shows triple features. It's a blast! There is also one in El Dorado, I believe, across from the college campus and there used to be one in Coffeyville, but I don't know anything about it.
The addresses and all the other information for all of those, including Coffeyville and El Dorado, are shown on the page that kfclark posted the link to.
The one in Coffeyville has been torn down and they built the new school on the ground about four years ago.
I could be all wet, but isn't the ElDorado drive-in the Starlite and the one in Wichita the Meadowlark? BUT don't quote me---------------- got out my wichita phone book - it is "Landmark Starlite Drive-in"---------sorry bout that, should have gotten the book out first. ElDorado is Star-Vu---- :-[ :-[
Yup, kfclark said the list was a little out of date. Although it may have said that on there, as I recall.
Scratch Coffeeville.
;D
can't scratch Coffeyville - my arms ain't that long
Hands probably aren't that big either, flo. Coffeyville would take a lot of scratching.
;D
All I know is that the Starlite Drive-in is very cool. My late husband and I used to go there in our super cab pickup and pack lawn chairs, a grill and and we just had a blast----it was like an all night date because with a triple feature, the movies wouldn't get over until the wee hours of the morning---so we even learned to take an air matress and turn the truck around backwards. Such fun! And then, before traveling back to Howard, we had breakfast at IHOP. Such great memories --- and a few stories that would make you laugh your head off. Still puts a smile on my face, just thinking about it. And the audio for the movie comes not from the speakers that you hook to your car window, but from a radio station that you tune in when you arrive on their grounds. Just too cool........for some summer time fun.
Yeah, it's gotten so they're sort of like big block parties. If you buy just right, a love seat will exactly fit across a pickup bed, and with a grill you're totally good to go. It is, just as emptynest says, an all-night date. I know it worked when I was a teenager; no reason it shouldn't work now.
;D
There's still a drive-in at Gas (just East of Iola) they only are open on the weekends. Ususally a double feature. Mainly PG movies.
I love drive in movies.
We used to go ...pop our own popcorn.. or take a bucket of fried chicken...
Is the one in Wichita safe?
