If Your Dog Gets Skunked
To remove the stink: Mix 1 quart of 3-percent hydrogen peroxide with 1/4 cup of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of mild dishwashing detergent (make sure it doesn't contain bleach or ammonia). Rub this mixture all over your dog's coat. Prevent it from getting into your pet's eyes or ears. Then give your pooch a bath with a mild pet shampoo. Rinse well.
If that doesn't work.. pass out clothespins for your noses.. LOL ;D
You can also use 1 part water and 3 parts vinagar, then give them a bath. It will discolor their coat a little but it gets out the smell.

Wish I had of known that about 15 years ago when we were on vacation at Beaver Lake. Taffy, my poodle was walking around the camper and got sprayed full force on the first day there, and I tried everything.. (about 10 gallons of tomato juice) and nothing worked. And we were in a 5th wheel with 4 kids for 10 days.
Lucky.. or kinda lucky that she liked to sleep all curled up and covered up in her big blanket. That helped a little, until she had to come out..

I didn't know about it, either, until my dog, Sam, got skunked when I took him running early one morning. I don't think he got sprayed directly, but I think he ran through the spray. Here's what happened...
My Uncle Fred Kline had died in Salina and on the morning of his funeral, I was to drive my sister and her husband to Wichita to mom and dad's. Then we were going to pile in mom and dad's van and drive to Salina.
I took Sam out for his morning run, which meant that I went to Cherry Street, let him out, then I drove the pickup south on Cherry Street and Sam ran. I picked him up on Elk Street and then he had his exercise in for the morning. When we got back to the sheriff's office where I lived, Sam smelled like skunk. I smelled like skunk.
I tied Sam outside and took off for the funeral. All I could smell was skunk. When we got to mom and dad's, I decided that my coat smelled like skunk, so I wore one of mother's. I smelled skunk all day.
When I finally made it back to Howard, Sam was still outsided. It had rained all day. He was soaked. However; Jim had tried to wash him down with tomato juice. I think he used about 3 or 4 cans. I then washed him down with Joy dishwashing soap. It helped some. I think the smell finally wore off.
A few weeks later, when I was out at Dr. Markley's, Lois told me about the receipe that Teresa posted. I will say that I have not had to use it, but I do know what to do now if that ever happens again.
Depending on the size of your dog, packing a few cotton balls into their ears can act as insurance against getting water in their ears.
while pheasant hunting several years ago out at Turon, our bird dog got sprayed. I wasn't hunting with the guys, but sure knew when they were back at the house. Our dog and their son were all that got skunked. Jig got shut in the shed and the son went to the bathtub. His mother was an avon dealer and he tried everything she had. Nothing worked and the only thing that smelled worse than the skunk was the skunk smell with all that mixed avon smell'um. Poor Jig had to ride home in the trunk of the car. (they even tried the tomato juice thing, should have just made a bloody mary out of that)
We had a skunk get in our garage and get behind some boxes...Our dog, Brody, does not like any kind of varmet on his territory so he was going crazy with that skunk...well, Curt was trying to get boxes moved without getting sprayed as the darn thing had already sprayed the boxes when Brody was upsetting him. So I take Brody up the hill and tie him to a tree. Curt has a bright idea to shoot the skunk with a pellet gun to make him move...wrong...he moved alright...moved his butt and sprayed each time. hahaha...well, anyway, he got the boxes moved so Brody could get to the darn skunk as it was so stinky in there that you could not stay in the garage for long...Curt had an old hunting coat over his face and body trying to breath but be safe in case he got sprayed. hahaha...I went up the hill and let Brody go and down the hill he ran, in the garage he went and grabbed that skunk the whole time the skunk was spraying him...Brody was foaming at the mouth and he bit the skunk in the middle and shook him till the skunks guts went flying...oh we had skunk everywhere and the garage is attached to the house....so we had to haul everything out of the garage, wash everything in vinegar, then clorox (we had very clean tools) then we washed the walls, cement floor with vinegar, then clorox and let everything air dry for 4 days...We washed Brody down with Tomato juice, then vinegar, then vinegar and water then shampoo...finally he was clean....so that was our skunk saga and it was a mess....but we lived through it.
hahahaha.. Ohhh sister.. where was your camera while all of this was taking place.. LOL LOL
