Bill Gene Murphy, age 87, of Howard, Kansas, passed away June 22, 2024 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. He was born November 6, 1936 to Joe Taft Murphy and Gracie Webb.
Bill was a general contractor for most of his life. He was known for his hard work, so much that his hobbies even included baling hay and cutting firewood. Outside of hard work, Bill loved his grandchildren, always making trips to see them when he could.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Billie (Bobby) Philipi; son, Mike (Brenda) Murphy; siblings, Margie (Steve) Bradley, Jodene (Ron) Wray, Nellie (Wayne) Seleck, David (Angie) Murphy, Rick (DeDe) Murphy, and Tom Adsmond; grandchildren, Brandon, Daniel, Ashley, Shelly, Marshall, Joe, Hunter, and Henry; and great-grandchildren, Zaylee, Amelia, Emma, Kennedy, Hollyn, Olivia, and Keegan. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marilyn Murphy; his son, Scott Murphy; sisters, Evelyn and Betty; and brother, Bob.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Friday, July 5, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the Grace Lawn Cemetery Pavilion in Howard, Kansas. Memorials can be made out to the St. Jude Children's Hospital and may be left with or mailed to Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349 which has been entrusted with arrangements.
