LBJ's "Great Society" was based on a specific ambitious vision of ends to be accomplished in the form of goods to be distributed. It has failed greatly. Vision guarantees nothing. Broad visions seeking to remake society and systems are more often than not the work of cranks who frequently are power-hungry madmen, willing to impose their vision on everyone else if they can.
