Title: Hiccups
Post by: Jane on February 05, 2007, 01:58:16 PM
We have been talking about hiccups at work today. It reminded me of a remedy for them.
Take a teaspoon of sugar and let it melt between your tongue and the roof of your mouth. I have used this method myself and they stop almost immedately.

We've tried that method, too.  Sometimes it worked, and other times it didn't.  We've also heard of inhaling / exhaling in a small brown paper bag (that is held tightly around the mouth and nose)10-15 times works.  We've also tried that.  Sometimes that worked and other times it didn't.

Hi Lois and ArmyMom,

I've used the sugar trick for many years and it nearly always works. I go one step further than just letting the sugar melt on my tongue: I hold my breath, let the sugar dissolve then swallow it. If I'm lucky, I don't pass out before the hiccups are gone!
