On August 15, 2012, the Elk Count Clerk placed the 2013 Budget Summary & notice of public budget hearing in the Prairie Star newsrag.
The Notice said that the required hearing was scheduled for 1:00PM on September 10, 2012. The hearing was not on the regular meeting agenda, and no budget hearing was conducted.
How can the County Clerk & the Commission chair just 'forget' or 'overlook' a hearing required by Kansas law? Especially when the hearing had been published and both hearing & certification were supposed to have been finalized on or before August 25, 2012. (See K.S.A. 79-1801, et seq)
Priceless. Yes. Scofflaws? We report, you decide.
Anyway, I understand the notice of hearing will be republished and a new hearing date set... by the way, your property taxes will NOT be going down.
