Title: Executions in Kansas
Post by: W. Gray on March 13, 2012, 03:35:35 PM
Executions in Kansas:

There have been 49 legal executions in the state of Kansas beginning July 11, 1862, and ending June 22, 1965. About 25 of these were executions under federal or military law.

1860s -- 11

1870s -- 1

1880s -- 3

1930s -- 3

1940s -- 11

1950s -- 14

1960s -- 6

Most Kansans (and others) are probably familiar with the two hangings that took place on April 14, 1965, courtesy of Truman Capote and Columbia Pictures. Only six years elapsed from the time of the murders to the executions.

However, perhaps more notorious than those two was "Andy" who was hanged on November 30, 1962. The "nicest boy in Walcott" fired a shot between his sister's eyes and added two more for good measure. He put 3 bullets into his mother and 17 into his father. Only four years elapsed from the time of the murders to his hanging.

The web site below shows the name and dates of each execution.
