Inventors and Scientists are now excited over the operation of an apparatus called the telephone. Sounds of the voice and musical sounds can be transmitted over long distances as by telegraph. By some it is thought it will take the place of telegraphy altogether. The inventor, Prof. Bell, of Boston, by its use has delivered a lecture to two audiences at the same time, when the distance between them was several hundred miles. The apparatus carries the human voice so perfectly that different voices can be recognized, and the words heard as plainly as though the speaker was only a few feet distant. If the machine should become sufficiently perfected it will become very useful. It is confidently believed that this is to be one of the wonders of the age.
