I had tomatoes clear up into late October last year...As late as my tomatoes are in coming on this year, I am thinking that this will be the case again this year. I have never had fried green tomatoes...They sound wonderful! :)
They are THE best. Love 'em.

I just throw some salt n pepper in some flour or cornmeal, dredge the tomtos in it and fry them in a skillet with 1/4" of oil. BUT IF you really want some good ones omit oil and use lard.
Have you ever tried Western Star seasoned flour? It makes incredible fried chicken and fried pork chops...I wonder what it would do with green tomatoes...????

Sounds like a wonderful summertime meal to me! ;D That was always a problem, though...The number of fantastic cooks that reside in Elk County...I started teaching there as a size 9 and...Uh...Well...We'll just say that when I left, I had grown from a sapling into a fully mature tree! lol :o ;D
9 is a shoe size, not a dress size isn't it? ;)
It is for me, anymore!! lol Oh well...I intend to leave this life having experienced every good thing there is to experience...And if that means that I'm not as svelte as I was as a youngster, then so be it...It's all good!
It's because you ATE the Fried Green Tomatoes, and did not WATCH The Movie!!!!!! ;D
Ohh I am a big time foodie. Friend of mine says i love my food. I am quite well versed in cooking deep south cooking. Shrimp n Grits are one of my specialties and Brunswick Stew is another. Some folks call it Bergoo. I however do cook excellent Italian food, Greek food, and I love to bake. I do sourdough, Italian bread, herb breads and tomato bread. Banana nut, I make a 10 layer carrot cake, Dried plum cake which is very good, and I'm hoping to soon learn to salt cure pork, if i can get me a feeder and butcher him. Need a small smoke house to do that. :D
I was raised around soul food restaurants, Mmmmmm can't beat them. I do pies and cobblers. Kinda ok in pastries. Haven't done much in them. ANd i am a COOKIE monster! I love cookies! Peanut butter, chocolate chip, no bake peanut butter/chocolate, i take peanut butter and spread it between two ritz crackers and dip in white chocolate....
You need to try out for Master Chef! Everyday people cooking exotic stuff that tastes good.
Heck, let's have a cook off in Elk County! People could pay $5 each to taste all the foods and vote.
???? Fund Raiser???
Limit it to a couple of dishes, say entrees and sides....then go from there!
ready to cook/eat

Okay Steve, hubby and I will be DEFINITELY be over for Greek food! Would you have any interest in cooking medieval recipes? Sounds to me like you have the cooking chops to do it. We have a fella in our SCA group who is very popular because of his and his ladywife's cooking. They do all our feasts for our local events. They live over in Elk City, they WERE the farthest "out" in our group, now it will be us.....next group over is Wichita. We have brewers too!

Well that makes me the whole dang forest..... :o
I used to go to a little old country church that was nondenominational. We were always having potlucks or parties after service, most of the food was made by farmer's wives. We had someone visit us on a day we were having a potluck. They wanted to know what "kind" of church we were. I told 'em we were an eatin' church......He stayed for lunch!

Now you hit a nerve. Just don't like sterilizing the bottles. Made some excellent stout last year. ;D
That's great Jefe! We have mead makers, wine makers, you name it. I don't drink, but two brothers in our group made a liqueur that I just had to taste. They made it out of those boxed cherry chocolates that come out around Christmas time. Now that was yummy, and it had a kick too!
Lisa

Don't they call that a cherry cordial?
that is one candy that I can't eat.........yuck......too sweet and first time I bit into one and got the syrup in my mouth I gagged and gagged.............I will eat a cherry mash, but not the cherry chocolates!
I must say that every place I go here that has a church meeting there is always someone bringing a dish for us to try......it is no wonder this county is considered a "FAT!" county................LOL Don't shoot people.........look around next time you are in a group........We do have great cooks here...........and that suggestion sounds like a good idea when each of the towns host the 4-H fair..........the other one have a cook off......share the fun........can it be done withOUT blood shed?????
Quotehave a cook off......share the fun........can it be done withOUT blood shed??
oh, be still my heart! please! HAVE A COOK OFF!
Good cooks are great. Taste is another thing. How about a cookoff with the traditional foods, yet nutriionally sound.
I can see it: good nutrition vs. old style. all is good eats, to paraphrase and the public gets to taste AND eat.
ideas galore!
Perhaps a category of fried green tomatoes!
ready
I volunteer to be a judge!!!!! ;D
