Mrs. A. F. Gitchell (Katie) quietly passed away Sunday morning January 1, 1911 at the age of 77 years. She and her husband came to Elk Falls in 1869 and have been closely identified with its history and its interests for forty years. Her illness has been long and distressing and death came as a release form suffering. The funeral took place from the M. E. church of which she has for a number of years been a member. Her former pastor, Rev. J. K. Morgan conducting the services. The choir sang "The Way of the Cross Leads Home," "Just as I am," and "One Sweetly Solemn Thought," Of the four children who survive their mother, two, Miss Stella and Tom were with their father at the sad rites of the funeral service, the others being unable to come.
