THESE PEOPLE ARE ABSOLUTELY SICK AND DERANGED!
Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church will be dispatching members of its congregation to protest the funeral of Elizabeth Edwards this Saturday, CNN reports.
The church has generated controversy with its confrontational and offensive demonstrations. "God Hates Fags" has become an unofficial calling card of the group, a phrase they say the world "needs to hear more than it needs oxygen, water and bread." Another Westboro sign, "Thank God For Dead Soldiers," is frequently displayed at military funerals and has created its own share of outrage.
In a promotional flier for the upcoming protest, the church references John and Elizabeth Edwards's son Wade, who died in a car crash in 1996:
"When they were visited from the Most High God with the death of their 16-year-old son, they did not humble themselves before His mighty hand. They reared up in rage, decided they would show God who is boss, and meddled in matters of the womb, resulting in 2 more children -- now motherless."
The church goes on to claim that she is now a "resident of hell, where her rebellion and rage will take full flower."
Elizabeth Edwards, the estranged wife of former Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards, died earlier this week at the age of 61 after a long battle with cancer. She is succeeded by her husband and three children.
Here's the Westboro Baptist Church's memo on their protest:
yes..they are!
Just the thought of these people...and I hesitate to call them "People" I think they are demons.
If the law can arrest a veteran and let these hellions go with no reprimand at all --- there is something drastically wrong with our country.
They should be in jail in solitary confinement---FOREVER --- if I had my way.
This is so sad and pathetic.
I posted this earlier, but it got lost in cyberspace----
The devil must be rubbing his hands in glee at the sight of these fools doing his work. These minions will collect their due someday. May Elizabeth and her family have peace.
Westboro would cry to high heaven and file a lawsuit if someone disrupted a funeral of one of theirs. Their verbal abuse is unequaled.
Other than the obvious, publicity, why do they have a beef with Elizabeth Edwards? I didn't understand what I read. I don't think they will be successful this time, too many people plan to be there to block them. If it was a little closer I'd go myself.
This has reached the level of a shared delusional process. I believe that is what it is. The effect on their own children is going to be devastating.
CNN reported only five of them showed up and they were restricted to a spot two blocks away. CNN also reported that about 200 people blocked them.
These people are as sick as Jim Jones was with his cult. I don't understand them, but it is hard to understand people who are insane.
How do they fund all these trips to protest at peoples funerals? Anyone have any idea?
Some of them have very good jobs and work for the State of Kansas. If they really follow their religious belief system, then they don't do anything fun and would be able to funnel a lot of money into church activities. More than 10% !
Perhaps their belief system is a hodge-podge of beliefs. They use the name "Baptist", yet I'm thinking
they're BJU (methodists) people (or graduates therof). Do they even know who is their own or what they are?
One of Freds granddaughters works at St.Francis Health care center here in Topeka. We have also heard they do work for the Saudi's and that is where they get there money for all the travels. :(

:o words fail me................
If you're speaking of BJU as Bob Jones University, that is NOT Methodist.....................................
My thoughts are that they accept no one's belief system except their own, which is a delusional system. The will be many irrationalities contained therein. This is why the church membership will be small and contained to their own family members and maybe a few others who are involved in the shared delusional thought process.
I do wonder about the Saudi connection. Could you say more about this?
Last I heard Bob Jones University was Methodist. Nowadyas, it might be hard to say what authority they are under, claim to be.

Westboro Baptist has no resemblance to the Methodist church that I grew up with in Kansas. Thank goodness I have a friend in Charlotte, NC that forms a protective ring around the services they wish to protest. (Also. they are not part of the Baptist Church I am familiar with, just a group of extemists like the jihadists of the Muslim faith).

There is ABSOLUTELY NO resemblance to the Methodist Church that I belong to.

BJU is not a methodist org. it is a Indepentant Fundamentalist Baptist group and they are a excessivly legalistic group. THey are so far out there that if Christ came down and stood before them they would call him a sinner.
Another one is hyles Anderson College. Then you have liberty university. Those three are extreme far right beyond conservative groups.
I just read more info about these extremist. I did not realize they were from Kansas. I had heard about them from my friend in NC that provides a ring around the military funerals they have protested in North Carolina. Boy, that really hurts my Kansas pride.

According to a friend, BJU is a very conservative fundamentalist Christian protestant school , but not Baptist either. It has typical college majors along with lots of bible study classes available. They even have an education major to create teachers. Must be socialists in disguise! ;D ;D ;D

You most likely won't find a BJU teacher teaching in public schools. Very rare for it to happen. Secondly, the majority of the grads are part of IFB churchs. I grew up around them all my life. One reason i don't go to IFB churches anymore. Very legalistic in their theology.
As far as I can tell, he word "church" does not appear on the BJU website. The "non-denominational protestant" description is there; whatever that means.

Not all that familiar with the legalism in so-called IFB churches. However, it looks like more and more IFB's are becoming more liberal.
That's what I'm seeing when I'm on the road. And you're right, there's many BJU grads with BJU influence in IFB churches. Don't think any church should have the BJU mix, or much else for that matter.
No matter what religion these Westboro are, they are not any that I have known. The words in that handout was so far a cry from any kind of religion. They are basically stating that Elilzabeth Edward's medical problems were brought on by herself! Now come on!! I was always taught that God has a plan for us all. I can't imagine what his plan is for those Westboro people, but I am just guessing it's not a nice relaxing day in Heaven when their times come. What do you think????
Perhaps they will spend eternity being surrounded, right up close, by pickets who drown them out, who don't give them a chance to speak and they get no publicity....can I add bedbugs nibbling on their feet? >:(
