Title: Something I Would Like To Do -------- Again
Post by: Wilma on October 23, 2010, 05:32:33 PM
Wade in a creek and try to catch tadpoles.  I say try because I cannot remember ever catching one.

Wilma, my tadpole catching days were illicit and that made them that much the better. My mother rightly, had forbidden us to wade or play in the drainage ditches of our neighborhood. The entire area relied on outhouses and there was a lot of danger in the surface water that collected in the many enticing homes of tadpoles and such on my way to and from school. But play in them I did, and yes I collected my share of tadpoles and some in fact grew into amazing toads. Many of my friends were victims of staph infection due to shallow wells and the disposal situation. I have often thought I would like to catch some tadpoles again just to track their progress into amphibeons.  :D

Me too! We raised 'em  most every rear as kids from a little pond near by and the school I taught in had a  slow moving stream at the foot of the playground, so we always raised a bunch in the aquarium every spring. Good memories. Thanks!
I'd like to go back to Scotland and do more research on my mom's family tree. We visited one of the castles the Boyds owned but there are a couple of others, just ruins I think ,that I'd love to find.

To once again play my clarinet in the college symphony..and sing in the 20 person ensemble I belonged to. I loved my music.. still do.. but there is something about being a part of something that can have the sounds and harmony of all of it  coming together that I just love.

I would love to once again play with Pete, my pet praying mantis. He could do tricks. I had big plans for me and Pete, but Teresa stomped on him and killed him.

Well, it wasn't Pete that she gave you. I gave Ol Pete a proper funeral and burial. I decorated a match box for his coffin with those little sheep shower flowers on it, then played Amazing Grace on my harmonica. I sat by his grave the rest of that day and all of the evening and quietly wept.

Quietly wept, my ache'n bacon !! I saw how you "quietly wept" that time a grasshopper got inside your shirt. Flopping around on the ground like a carp out'a water---screaming and waling for your Mamma.
That's odd---that stupid praying mantis Teresa gave me was in a dirty match box and she said it was to keep him fresh as them juices leaked out where he was smashed and that would attract the fish !! Worked too.

Now that you all mention it, I, too, had a praying mantis, except that I didn't know what it was.  I took it to school and my teacher had me do some research on it.  After finding that it ate insects, we provided it with grasshoppers and had the privilege of seeing it eat one.  My grade school nemeses had told me that it would bite, but it never bit me.

I also found some pretty black, yellow and white caterpillars and took them to school.  Teacher identified them and I did the research.  We fed them and watched them spin their light green, trimmed with gold chrysalis.  Watched them turn into Monarch butterflies, then turned them loose.

I said that I could never catch a tadpole.  I had forgotten about the tiny black tadpoles that I found in a puddle one day.  I don't remember how I got them home.  I put them in an old pan and left them out in the yard and they disappeared, one by one.  I didn't realize that they would turn into toads and hop away.

Larry,
That would be great but only if we do it WITHOUT ol Sarge. He can't hang with the Big Dogs when it comes to drinking. A couple of brews and he lets his alligator mouth overload his canary ass. He goes to bragging about how many grasshoppers he shot with ol Hopper Hater (the name of his trusty (rusty) BB gun) vs how many I shot with ol Betsey (now that was a classic name fer a fine shoot'n rifle), back when we were pups. Hell, half the hoppers he claimed he shot were all mangled and no doubt he plucked them from the radiator of his Dad's Desoto coupe.

That's all lies Larry. Tarbabyhead doesn't have the truth in him.  Do you know that he actually tells people that he was in the Marines? HAW! Can you imagine a weenie like him in the United States Marine Corps? Hell, R. Lee Ermy would die of a heart attack. That big brave blow hard is even afraid of a mouse. Can you believe that? A grown man afraid of a mouse. And something else; he can't swim!!! Oh, he can dog paddle a little, looking like a floundering walrus in the water. And he has the audacity, the unmitigated gall  to try and belittle me, the epitome of artistry with a bb gun, a veritable paragon in the art of grasshopper elimination and beer drinking.

I don't usually get involved in things like this but I just can't stay out of this one. Sarge, Jarhead looks to be  a whole lot older than you and I don't think you should pick on your elders like that.

What you been smoking ELK ? Me look older than Sarge ? You gotta be kid'n me. That old fart is a good year and half older than me. Maybe I look a tad older because of the life I've lead. You know, me being a Billy Bad Ass Marine while ol Sarge was a flyboy. In Nam he had a dog lead him around while I was leading troops into Combat. While I was stopping Communist aggression he was reading the dictionary to learn them big  words that I have no idea what he's talking about. Then to imply I can't swim !! How does he think coached Easter Williams !! Did many breast strokes with that gal---and hell yes, I'm scared of mice. You ever see the fangs on them puppies ?? Ask ol Scrooge--I mean Sarge who is scared of a little ol spider . What a pansy ass he is !!

Well the whole shooting match didn't seem to be fair. You said yourself he was shootiing a BB gun and you were shooting a "Rifle". I would think it took a whole lot better shot to shoot a bug with a BB gun than with a rifle. That doesn't seem fair a lot older man with a rifle comparing shooting to a nice young boy with a BB gun.

Well ELK, I should have been more specific. Ol Betsey was a Daisy Air RIFLE---I do thank you for sticking up for me though :)
Ol Sarge has always been jealous of my shooting ability. That's why he joined the Air Force. Instead of being a'one shot--one kill " like me he thought he would be a pilot and drop a load of bombs and maybe--I reapeat MAYBE--hit a target. He got his wish cause he was a pilot alright."Hey Airman, scoop up the dog poo and "pilot" over here" !!

Sweet smile ?? I think not. Ever since he got his false teeth he likes to think he looks like Rock Hudson. Always flashing them pearls. To me he looks more like a buck tooth beaver I trapped once!! He dang near put my eyeball out trying to whistle. Blew them falsies across the room and if it hadn't been for my lightning fast reflexes I would be wearing a patch over my left eye. You should have seen it---them falsies headed my way but my muscular body was coiled to spring into action--not unlike a cougar getting ready to attack a deer. Fleet of foot I was but-----just a minute---my wife wants me to load the dishwasher but rest assured I will tell you all the story, later !!!

Jarhead--I was trying to stay out of this "my gun's bigger than your gun" testosterone filled jigger but the lightning fast comment has my side hurting. I don't think you're lightning fast anymore. I do recall seeing a few days back a pear whopping you in the head as if it had fell out of the sky, or maybe some Flyboy bombed you with a damn pear. And you stood there rubbing your head, looking to the sky, wondering what the hell was that? You reminded me a lot of Forest Gump when something jumped up and bit him right in the buttocks. LOL, you guys are nuts!!! MR. KSHillbillys

Forrest Gump is a genius next to tarhead. The reason he mentions my store bought teeth is because he doesn't have any teeth and always spits when he talks, kinda like John Osborne. In fact, come to think of it, tarhead reminds me a lot of ol John Osborne, a lot louder when he talks and spits more when he talks, but nonetheless a lot like ol John. I'm sure most of you don't know who I am talking about, but those who do will surely agree with me.

That's it Sarge---you making fun of me for my lack of fangs---that is the straw that broke the camels back----have you forgotten who has the little book you wrote--"The Adventures of Jungle Jim and His Courageous, Loyal Hunting /Fishing Partner, Ronnie " ?? I have it that's who---and in the next few days the first chapter will be posted on this forum for the whole world to see what a moron you were ,growing up. If it wasn't for "Fearless Ronnie" you would have never reached puberty. I f it wasn't for the mighty Jungle Jim ,Ronnie would have been rich with all the gold he could have found-------------------never mind---Stand by for chapter one !!!!

Go ahead and laugh Mr. hillbilly !! You ever been beaned on the noggin with a green pear that fell from the top of a 200 foot tall pear tree ???
Aint funny there, Laughing Boy !!
What about when I threw that pear at you and hollered "grenade" ? You want to tell the fine folks how you jumped into the ditch and started whimpering? How Jennifer consoled you and led you home to change your soiled bloomers ??

Good grief, who put something hinky in the water system? :o
RJ, that is exactly why I didn't climb it! There were other people there in various stages of going up and coming down and they really put me off. I decided my time was better spent looking at the plazas and the skulls and such...on the ground! ;D
