I think Dr. Laura is upset that she let people get the best of her over her use of the word.  She was trying to help a black woman find some positive options for dealing with a marital and friendship situation.  The lady interupted her over and over and Dr. Laura repeated herself and said "Why will you not let me finish a sentence?"  Now Dr. Laura wants her free speech rights in a different venue.

I have had this situation as a counselor:  the client is paying you a high price to counsel but will not even listen while you finish a sentence and furthermore puts you down in a demeaning way.  What good is that doing them???

No word should be deleted from our ability to say it.  Blacks use it all the time.  There was once a pop group called "Niggers With Attitude."

There are several positive options for those who are called names or put down.  First make a joke about it and laugh as you are saying it.  Second carry it out to its extreme and comment on it in such a way that the name caller won't respond.  Third the woman caller could have had her husband speak to his friends about their jokes and ask them to stop.  Avoidance is another option.

I have a feeling this lady has a lot more to worry about than the use of one word she doesn't care for. That family is going to make her life miserable unless they get some counseling and he stands up for her.

The whole situation is a big mess and a lot of misunderstanding imo.  I don't listen to much talk radio, but when I do, i have tuned in to Dr Laura and found her show interesting.  It puzzles me why Dr laura has taken on the roll of the victim here instead of just explaining it was a misunderstanding and then going on about her business.  Nobody is infringing on any of her freedoms, and she should continue her show.

Totally off subject but...Niggaz with Attitude was a rap group in the early to mid 90's.  Featuring members that went on to very successful solo careers, such as Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Eazy E.

Dr Laura said on Larry King tonight that she is just over it and tired of groups that want to destroy her rather than to have a discussion about why she was wrong in saying what she did.

I agree with Anmar on this. She was claiming victim hood and talking quiting before anyone else hardy had time to comment. I say chalk it up to a bad day at the office and move on.

She is wealthy and doesn't need the stress and hassle of it all.

If bad words are "just words" does that mean TV will  soon no longer bleep out profanity? Kids can cuss out their teachers with no fear and teachers can call their students whatever spic, wop, nigger, redneck, kike, grease ball towel head, inbred bigot hillbilly name they want with no repercussion?  Whoope!    Sigh. I'm just shaking my head. To me this is just as serious as the worries about socialism. I'm not sure verbally bullying someone has any business hiding behind freedom of speech. Kids will learn from the parents who then will protect the little darlings so it doesn't reflect on themselves. When and how does it stop?

Kids should learn and adults should practice good manners and acceptable language.  But no word should be banned.  Dr. Laura    ( I don't like her)  was acting in the role of counselor and she was trying to help.  She did not do a good job of helping.

What I have noticed since Dr. Laura first went on the air:  she does not listen to the caller before she starts a rant about her own ideas.  In this case she should have listened more carefully and then approached the topic of the relationship with the husband.
Then the husband's relatives especially his mother.  Then last and only last give her opinion that the caller might be too sensitive to race issues.

Sounds reasonable to me. Thanks.
