@ flo:  and this is a good thing about Elk Co. because...........?  Oh yes. It's because people like me are very sorry that someone stole your plywood.  If I had seen someone taking your plywood I would have told you and the police.  If someone in my house brought your plywood home, I would  have sent them right back to your house to return it, confess, and apologize.  That's why this is a good thing about Elk County.

The Coffee Shop / P.E. Night
March 05, 2010, 10:39:25 PM
Both elementary schools had a combined P.E. night at West Elk, and it was terrific!  First of all, it was refreshing to see all the bleachers filled w/families cheering for elementary kids.  And then it was awesome to see all the kids together.  They were so cute and so excited. The music and activities were so much fun to watch.  Mr. Haag is to be commended for putting together such an entertaining and enjoyable evening.  I hope you all were there to see it.

Those scores are awesome!  Good job West Elk scholars bowl team and coach!  If only people got as fired up about this kind of news--outstanding scholars, awesome representation of our school district, terrific activity to support students in academics--as they do about the negative stuff.

Congratulations West Elk Scholars Bowl team and coach.  Keep up the good work and continue to represent our school district in such a positive way.

People will not changer their minds regarding this issue. This school district is not the only one having to rethink their structure to work within the budget constraints.  The past school board bears as much responsiblity in this matter as the current school board.  Mr. Reese is a sitting duck.  Other people have been in the position to make changes etc and declined to do so.

How can you think it is cheaper to run and staff 3 cafeterias?  More students are not being fed.  The same number will be fed in one cafeteria by less staff.

Maybe some of you don't realize this, but more of the students receive free lunch than pay for it.  And furthermore, many students take food home on the weekends in their backpacks from the food pantry.  I doubt many of those children's parents would pack them a lunch.  Sometimes the only hot meal a child gets is at school.  There are children who get to school hungry every day.  There are many reasons for this situation, but it exists none the less.

Uninformed people should not pass judgement on professional teachers and therapists.  Every one of the people I have known who work w/special ed have children's best interests at heart.  If you know of someone who tests children just to label them special ed to get more special ed money, why don't you just name them?  It is just crappy to sling that kind of mud, and perhaps what you smell is closer to home.

I don't know if I'm "in" or "out" and I don't really care.  It's easy to be part of the problem.  I'm plainly asking, if anyone has an informed opinion or a reasonable solution, spit it out.

The program could have been in the gymnasium.  If there was still not enough room w/bleachers, then folding chairs could have been set up. I know all about the new floor but there are ways of covering the floor to protect it.  A stage and risers could also be set up in the gym.  Someone said the sound system might not be adequate, but if you've ever attended a grade school program in the past, you should be used to that!  It's about time the grade schools got together and did one program.  It makes sense.  Some people even have children in all 3 buildings.

It was a good idea, the program was wonderful, people--including all the children, worked very hard to make it a success.  Regardless of whether the schools close or stay open, I hope they continue to do the programs this way.

The Family Market sells Our Family brand products.  The elementary schools can turn in Our Family labels and earn 5 cents each label for the schools.
