Since we're getting close to Thanksgiving, I thought it might be interesting to see what everyone's favorite meal is...You don't have to list the Thanksgiving feast as your favorite meal...be creative...
My favorite meal is a thick, hearty ribeye steak cooked to an almost medium level, lightly marbled, with a salad or steamed, buttered veggies, a baked potato with all of the great timeless toppings (sour cream, chives, bacon, a little cheese, and a smattering of butter), a bit of cornbread with honey and butter on it, and maybe a rich slice of pie, cake, or a bowl of ice cream with a rich topping for dessert and a glass of wine or iced tea to enjoy while consuming all of the previous. Now, the reality?...Burger King...McDonald's...Arby's....school lunches...lunches packed from home...left-overs...ad naseum...while entertaining dreams of the previous...
Your favorite meal sounds great, and I would enjoy all of that, too. However, I do believe I would have to say that my very favorite food is homemade vegetable soup with cornbread! (The old Kansas way!)
Fried chicken, mashed taters n chicken gravy, biscuits, green beans with fatback in them, fried okra/tomato/onions.
sweet tea and a slice of pecan pie for dessert
The one on the table when it's time to eat. ;) ;)
Have to go back to my childhood, as I really don't have a standout favorite now. I have had the opportunity to travel to many places and eat at some very fine dining restaurants and have eat some awesome foods.
That said, my favorite meal was quail or rabbit, cooked like my mom could only cook them, in a bed of rice, mashed potatoes with gravy made from browning the game, and southern baked cheese grits. Fresh strawberry shortcake for desert.

Ohh i love cheese grits. Haven't found grits anywhere around here. :(
Steve, which place do you live on, who used to live there, let me know and I will know where it is and the next time I come that way I will try to remember to bring you some Grits. Sage Sausage, Grits and Eggs and Homemade biscuits, what a great breakfast.
Frank
Steve, My mom makes them and they are too die for!!! I swear, I have ate half a 9x13 pan of them for dinner before!!!!
When Billy and I first got together he made me the best meal I'd ever eaten in my life. I thought he was crazy when he said we were going to have steak & eggs. So....my favorite meal is a nice juicy "home-grown" KC Strip steak, cooked medium rare. Seasoned with garlic pepper. I like my eggs scrambled and placed right next to my steak so they soak up the juices. A fresh salad with tomatoes right out of the garden. :)
I'm a steak eater too lol...London Broil medium well cooked with onions and green peppers,little worstershire, cajun spice and black pepper cook it with a lid on the skillet till it's about done then let the juices cook down to caramelize the onions and spoon em on top, don't need anything else but salad with that!
My favorite meal is Mom's Pot roast with potato's and carrots and homemade rolls.
At the end of the meal our homemade from scratch Chocolate cake with fudge frosting. YUM YUM!
pass the ice cream please.
But, my best favorite is the meals we would have when the whole family is together and sitting
elbow to elbow and sharing our lives.
Doesn't matter who brought what or who did the cooking, the best flavor is LOVE AND the warmth of my
family.
Moms fried chicken mashed taters and gravy corn and salad and stawberry pie to top it off. ( give me those starches yummy for the tummy) lol

Oh i grew up on cheese grits. mmmm Mom used to add bacon to them, or diced ham, or jalapenos, or all of the above.
Another thing she used to do with them is take the leftovers (yeah like there was any LOL) and line a bread loaf pan with wax paper, and pack the grits into it and make a loaf. Put em in the fridge overnight and the next morning, slide it all out and slice them 1/4" thick and fry em up in some bacon grease or even deep fat fry them in the fry daddy. Ooooo Their good that way!!
My favorite dish with grits though is shrimp n grits.
* 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
* 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce (such as Franks hot sauce or wing sauce)
* 1 1/2 pounds peeled and deveined large shrimp
* 2 bacon slices, chopped
* 1 cup chopped onion
* 1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
* 1 1/2 teaspoons minced garlic
* 1 cup chicken broth
* 1/2 cup chopped green onions, divided
* 5 cups water
* 1 1/2 cups uncooked quick-cooking grits
* 1 tablespoon butter
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 3/4 cup (6 ounces) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Combine first 3 ingredients; set aside.
Cook bacon in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat until crisp. Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic to drippings in pan; cook 5 minutes or until tender, stirring occasionally. Stir in shrimp mixture, broth, and 1/4 cup green onions; cook 5 minutes or until shrimp are done, stirring frequently.
Bring water to a boil in a medium saucepan; gradually add grits, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to low; simmer, covered, for 5 minutes or until thick, stirring occasionally. Stir in butter and salt. Serve shrimp mixture over grits; sprinkle with cheese and remaining green onions.
I do the same thing your mom did Steve. I add lots of bacon to them and instead of using butter, I use bacon grease also...and american cheese( not velvetta)
I have made grits and cornmeal mush a lot and fried it up.Sometimes I make Scrapple ... cornmeal mush made with bits of cooked pork ( off neck bones) cooked in the broth. Let it cool overnight ..slice it and fry in bacon grease.. You can't beat it.
Didn't just have to be for breakfast either..
My favorite meal if I cook it is a toss up....Fried Chicken or Fried Squirrel with gizzards and livers added, mashed potatoes and cream chicken gravy with homemade biscuits.... or
Pork chops just put in a pan.. with some bacon grease and cooked real slow.. ( until you get all that brown rich juice off of them).. Take the pork chops out.. add nothing but heavy cream to the broth and make thin pan of gravy.... and let cook for about 5 minutes.. Put the chops back let them simmer in this for as long as it takes for the hot biscuits to cook in the oven.
Then put the biscuits on the plate..pour the thin cream gravy all over it.. add the chops and I am in heaven. ( FAT heaven.. but heaven none the less ;D ;D)
My favorite if I eat out is King Crab legs in fresh drawn butter.. wild rice & steamed broccoli and ice tea.

Schmidt's Kansas Premium Beef (my parent's beef company) t-bone steak, cooked medium-rare. Who needs anything else?
But, if you must... homegrown garden veggies to go with it... asparagus, spaghetti squash, baked sweet potato (butter only), and some cinnamon apples from the grill for dessert.
My 2nd favorite meal is when Chuck fixes ribs on the grill.
what in the world are grits?
My favorite meal is any meal that I don't have to fix!!! LoL!!!

Their manna from heaven! :)
:D
Grits are ground hominy, cooked up til thick and creamy. Add butter salt n pepper for the basics. Mmmmm
A good breakfast is to pile a mound of grits on the plate, crumble up crisp bacon over the top and top off with your over med eggs. Mmmm
Too many favorites to name just one or two. Well, OK.....how about a butterflied filet mignon, medium well, with grilled mushrooms and onions, twice baked potato, dinner salad with the works and bleu cheese dressing (or a steamed veg medley), fresh yeast roll with butter or lightly seasoned garlic Texas toast, a slice of whisky/chocolate/pecan pie, fresh brewed coffee with a shot of Bailey's. Yep, clogged arteries served piping hot.....mmmmmmmmm!
Or extra crispy fried chicken, macaroni salad, coleslaw and a biscuit. But all homemade, not passed through the KFC drive-up window. Fresh lemonade with lots of sugar, and a extra chocolatey brownie.
Tuna salad with lettuce and tomato on toast with a side of Fritos and a glass of milk. Peanut butter cookie.
Poplars chicken fried steak dinner.
Traditional Thanksgiving dinner: turkey, dressing (I prefer bread to cornbread), chicken with homemade egg noodles, mashed potatoes, cranberry salad (the kind with celery and walnuts), Brussels sprouts or broccoli, deviled eggs, those weird candied apple rings, black olives and pie. Any kind, but really good pumpkin is a favorite.
Of course, all of these only qualify as true favorites if I don't have to cook or clean up afterwards! Well, OK, maybe the tuna salad.

My grandmother always served pickled crab apples at Thanksgiving.
I guess my favorite meal is Turkey, dressing (white bread), mashed potatoes and gravy, candied sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, big yeast rolls, deviled eggs and olives.
Next favorite meal is pinto beans, fried potatoes and corn bread with butter and homemade jelly.
Oh, man! How could I forget the sweet potatoes??!! Thanks, MsBear, for reminding me!
1. Fresh Mountain Oysters, Mashed Potatoes, Gravy
2. Med. Rare RibEye & Asparagus *Grilled*
3. Fresh Pork Loin, sliced thin fried, Mashed Potatoes, Gravy
4. White Beans w/ham, (sweet)Cornbread, Fried Potatoes w/onions
5. Med. Rare Hamburger Steak, scrambled eqqs w/taters and onions
Ice Tea with all the above
Always good, Morel Mushrooms, Poppyseed Cake, Lemon Pie, Homemade Bread, Fresh Tomato & Red Onion Sandwich w/Mustard
I have a lot of favorites, but probably,
Fried chicken with chicken grease gravy and mashed taters and corn. ;D
My next favorite would be shrimp on the barbie from Out Back Steakhouse. ;D I WISH I could duplicate that!! MMMMMMMM
Next would be home made chicken noodle soup with home made noodles.
Last would probably be festive pork roast. MMMMMMMMMM
