The Coffee Shop / Any jobs in or around Howard?
March 18, 2011, 07:41:29 PM
I'm needing a part time job.  Has anyone heard of anyone hiring or looking for part time help?  I'm good on computers.  Know most of the MS suites.  Data entry.    Can work on computers a bit as in hardware replacements.  Can run a cash register.  Or any other part time jobs?   Just need extra money if anyone knows of anything.
Thanks  :)

The Coffee Shop / Missing Horses!!
May 19, 2010, 07:23:37 PM
We are missing 3 of our horses, so for ranchers that ranch over SW of Piedmont, or if you know of ones that do, please tell them to keep an eye out.  Missing since last night.  One big tall bay gelding, one stout sorrel Quarter Horse mare and one very loud black and white spotted leopard Appaloosa.  Please, if you see them, pm me and let us know.   Disappeared around 9:00 last night on Rd. 9, 1 and 1/2 miles south of Rock Rd.

Politics / A global warming question
January 12, 2010, 03:07:07 PM
Having an argument on another board about global warming.  Someone mentioned that we owe third world countries for using up all their resources and wiping them out with our greed and so we owe it to these poor countries to send them all this money for recompense for what we've done.

Your thoughts?

The Coffee Shop / Camp over by Independence?
December 08, 2009, 09:17:13 PM
There's a strange place that would look to be an internment camp over east of Independence.  Does anyone know what this place is?   Has anyone heard of it or seen it or know what it might be?

The Coffee Shop / The large flea market
November 14, 2009, 04:36:31 PM
Has anyone ever been to the big flea market out at the Kansas Coliseum and is it worth it?  I noticed it's going on tomorrow and I'd really like to go, but didn't know if it was worth the time or trouble to drive over there for it.

I have a friend who goes to WSU.  He's taking an American Political Science class there.  When speaking of our forefathers they are taught that they were a bunch of drunken, godless, instigators and pirates. If you can believe that.  And then we wonder why there is no respect for the constitution and what it stands for or any respect for this country and why we're so quick to hand it over to the control of other nations or group of nations.   ::)

Politics / House Passes Health Care Bill
November 08, 2009, 06:49:28 AM
QuoteIn a victory for President Barack Obama, the Democratic-controlled House narrowly passed landmark health care legislation Saturday night to expand coverage to tens of millions who lack it and place tough new restrictions on the insurance industry. Republican opposition was nearly unanimous.

The 220-215 vote cleared the way for the Senate to begin a long-delayed debate on the issue that has come to overshadow all others in Congress.

A triumphant Speaker Nancy Pelosi likened the legislation to the passage of Social Security in 1935 and Medicare 30 years later -- and Obama issued a statement saying, "I look forward to signing it into law by the end of the year."

"It provides coverage for 96 percent of Americans. It offers everyone, regardless of health or income, the peace of mind that comes from knowing they will have access to affordable health care when they need it," said Rep. John Dingell, the 83-year-old Michigan lawmaker who has introduced national health insurance in every Congress since succeeding his father in 1955.

In the run-up to a final vote, conservatives from the two political parties joined forces to impose tough new restrictions on abortion coverage in insurance policies to be sold to many individuals and small groups. They prevailed on a roll call of 240-194.

Ironically, that only solidified support for the legislation, clearing the way for conservative Democrats to vote for it.

The legislation would require most Americans to carry insurance and provide federal subsidies to those who otherwise could not afford it. Large companies would have to offer coverage to their employees. Both consumers and companies would be slapped with penalties if they defied the government's mandates.

I suppose they're going to hurry up and bull this through the Senate too before next year seeing as next year is an election year.

The Coffee Shop / Winter gardening
October 26, 2009, 07:30:45 PM
Wondering if anyone out here grows things during the winter months either in greenhouses and/or cold frames?  If so, what do you find does well this time of year?  We're building cold frames this weekend for me to play with to take the edge off the winter months that I can't hardly stand to get through.  Oh how I'd love to move to Hawaii!!

The Coffee Shop / The vote on Nov 3
October 26, 2009, 01:42:08 PM
I'm going to drop out of the school debate, but I wanted to say that there were wonderful points on both sides of the argument.  Everyone brought up a lot of points I wouldn't have thought about had they not.  I know some people were getting tired of reading it, but it did help to voice ideas that may or may not have come to mind already and helps me make a choice seeing the argument from both points of view.

Hope Elk county has a wonderful turn out at the voting booth and that everyone is able to vote their conscience with no looking back.  This is a wonderful group of people here and I know each has their valid points and concerns.

The Coffee Shop / Question for teachers
June 25, 2009, 10:32:27 AM
Back when I was in school, and maybe they still use them, but we had these notebook size cards that were kept in a box and were sorted by color.  They had short stories on the cards with comprehension questions at the end.  We use to have to do a card or two a week or so.  Do any of you remember what those cards were called?
Thanks

Also, what book club did they use to use back in the late 70's and 80's to order books from through the school?  Was that Scholastic?

The Coffee Shop / Looking for work
May 23, 2009, 08:50:22 AM
My husbands hours just keep slipping and we're getting so we can't make it and I desperately need some work.  Anything will do.  Can work most any time except over night.  Can even do personal jobs.  Can't be a long ways away as my van broke down and i don't have the money to fix it and the only thing I have to drive is our old water truck.  If you know of anything, please let me know.  I don't want to have to get rid of my critters but will if I can't afford to feed them.  I realize with the economy the way it is everyone is having a hard time and jobs are scarce, but if anyone knows of anything?
Thanks

The Coffee Shop / Tanning in Howard?
March 10, 2009, 01:12:38 PM
I've seen it mentioned a few times that there are tanning beds in Howard?  Where are these at?  We don't get the Howard phone book, so if you have a phone number that would be great.  I'm dieing to get back to tanning again.  If someone could help me out I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!  :)  :D

Oh, also, where's the best place to get hair permed?  I have hair down to the middle of my back that is usually destined to be in a pony tail and I've been looking for something else to do with it, but don't know who to go to out here.  Need someone that's willing to listen.  :)

Religious/Spiritual / What does it mean to be a Christian?
September 27, 2008, 06:29:14 AM
What do you think defines a true Christian?  Do you think it's a person doing good works?  Perhaps one that never misses church?  Or maybe one that belongs to a specific church?  Do you think that most good people will go to heaven?  Or maybe those that obey the 10 commandments?
