Politics / Free Speech
July 25, 2011, 04:44:09 PM
Since when in the world are we not allowed to free speech?? Why is it that some people can't just agree to not agree on issues, without the name calling and back lash that follows? I thought that everyone was entitled to their own opinions on things, and if they state it the ones that don't agree with the others thinking are suddenly not intelligent? There are things that are said that are so mean and hateful on here, because some choose to not agree and they write their opinion on the matter and suddenly they are so dumb!! Why is that? Is it that one person is right and no one else is? No, it's because we all stand for what we believe in. I might not believe like others, but sometimes it's just better to not agree then to post one's opinions. I feel that we should be able to not agree and post our opinions without the "I'M BETTER THAN YOU AND KNOW IT ALL ATTITUDE"!! Sick to death of putting jokes on here to people, posting my opinions, and others think it's ok to call me dumb!! I know that many of you are going to say, stop reading it, stop posting. But why should I have to do that? Don't I have the same rights as they do when it comes to using the forum?

Please feel free to BASH away!!

The Coffee Shop / Question
June 17, 2011, 07:07:34 AM
I have a question I was wondering. I have my daycare in Howard at 444 S. Olive. For the past 2 weeks, I have come into town and something has knocked over and gotten into my trash cans. I don't know of any dogs in the neighborhood that run, but could be dogs. But yesterday Jeff brought in a big metal drum trash can, and you know what, it wasn't knocked over but something climbed in it and got trash out. If you live in this area and have a dog that runs at night, you might watch it. I can't imagine that stinky diapers would be that appealing. But if not a dog, does anyone have any ideas what it could be??? Just wondering!!

The Coffee Shop / Prayers Please
May 31, 2011, 04:15:37 PM
As many of you know, my father in law was injured at work earlier in May. He is progressing slowly. This is a note that will appear in the paper from my mother in law:

The family of Larry Town would like to thank friends, neighbors, and coworkers, for cards, visits, calls of concern, well wishes, offers of help and many prayers. All is greatly appreciated.
The nature and type of his injuries will take months of recovery time and therapy, but Larry is a strong and determined soul.
His address is: L.T.A.C of Wichita, 8080 E. Pawnee, Wichita Ks. 67207 Room 503

God Bless and Thank you!!

Please continue praying for him!!

Thanks Again!!

The Coffee Shop / Music Concert
May 09, 2011, 10:25:00 AM
Last Friday May 6th, grades 4 through 12 had a music concert at the high school. I just have to say, I am really impressed with Mrs. Shilts-Baum. She does an amazing job with the music department. I was also impressed with the all the groups as they all performed really well. Got to just throw this out there, Cole Mull is a very talented singer. I am also very impressed with Flo's granddaughter Courtney Hunter, she can play that flute and also has a beautiful voice!!

The high school band is small in numbers, but they are really good. I loved listening to all the groups perform!! 4th grade, 5 and 6 grade band, Jr. High vocal and Jr. High band!! They are all a group of talented musicians!!! Good job, Patriot Musicians!!! You ROCK!!

The Coffee Shop / Old T-Shirts
April 29, 2011, 12:21:20 PM
If anyone has any old t-shirts I could use them. My girls are going to try and make a rug out of t-shirts. This is a project for 4-H that I found in my family fun book. I don't think small rips will matter, would rather not have ones with tons of oil or grease on them. They can have stains, as I don't really think they will show up. You can call me at the daycare 620-374-2420 or my cell 620-330-2448. If no answer at either number do leave message, I will get back with you. Need about 36 or so shirts to make 3 rugs.
Thanks so much

The Coffee Shop / Internet sites
February 04, 2011, 01:24:18 PM
I am looking for some good referenced sites for a paper for my class. I am looking for stuff about the principles of the Constitution, self government, seperation of powers, and checks and balances. I am also looking for stuff about the 3 federal branches. I know there are wiki sites and ask sites, but I can't use those. They are not viable sites. I could also use some journal articles. If anyone could help, I would really appreciate it! Thanks so much!!

I posted this on the history section and thought I might get some answers, but none yet. So if anyone could help I would really appreciate it!

The Coffee Shop / Good things About Elk County
March 01, 2010, 08:34:58 AM
After much reading about the roads, and this and that, that has gone on lately, can I ask you this?  What do you think is good about Elk County?  I wouldn't live here if I didn't like it.  I don't mind that the roads are not perfect at all times.  I try to help out whenever I am ask.

I have noticed such negative things being said about Elk County or cities within the county, lately, that I just wonder WHY?  If you don't like something that is being done, go to meetings, call your commissioners, or do something positive about it.  Why all the negative things all the time?  I am proud to say that I was born and raised in Severy.  Attended high school here, West Elk, moved around while going to college.  Married my high school sweet heart and we now live in Howard. He has always lived here, I have lived here about 12 years.  I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.  I am proud to live here.

Now, can anyone say nice things about Elk County?  I just want to see.  No gripping about the roads, the schools, the taxes.  Why do you like to live here?  Just wondering if there are others that are glad to live here, and appreciate it!!!

The Coffee Shop / Prayers for my brother
November 12, 2009, 07:10:55 AM
I am asking everyone to say a extra prayer for my little brother Randy Ware.  I recieved a call last night that he was put into the hospital due to an infection in his leg.  He had one a few months back.  His wife told me that they were concerned that it might be to the bone or even in the bone.  He was running a fever, had flu like symtons due to the fever.  I will post what I hear today.  But with my parents being gone, he and my sister have become really close, and this really has me for a loop.  He is only 32 years old.  I know that God works miracles so I just pray that it isn't as bad as they think after all the test are back.  Thanks so much!  You all are just like family, and I know that your prayers will help with his healing!

The Coffee Shop / Nice comments!
November 06, 2009, 02:49:12 PM
Ok, with the school vote and things.  I have noticed myself becoming very upset at people's comments and such.  I feel that I wanted to state, I have my opinion and you have yours.  I am glad that we all have different opinions and can enjoy this forum as a family type setting!  So if I have offended anyone, please that is not what I want to do.  I love getting on here and seeing what everyone has to say.

So, have a great weekend everyone!!!  Enjoy this wonderful weather that we are having!!! :D

The Coffee Shop / Jackson Park
September 24, 2009, 05:35:01 AM
I just didnt see any mention of this, but if you haven't driven by Jackson Park you need to.  It is becoming such a great place in our community.  They have now added a new play area for the kids.  The playset is wonderful.  Of course, the kids and I haven't actually played on it yet, but they so wanted to last night.  We have plans to make it there tonight.  I love the addition, I can walk and kids can play on the playset!!  Plus the memorial is just BEAUTIFUL beyond words.  I haven't gotten up close to look at the new rock work.  Everytime I go by someone is still working there.  But it is just a beautiful addition to Howard!  WAY TO GO!!  EVERYONE THAT WORKED MANY HOURS TO ACCOMPLISH THIS!!!

The Coffee Shop / Regional 4-H days in Madison
March 26, 2009, 10:00:42 AM
Saturday March 28th is regional 4-H days in Madison.  Elk County has several young youth to represent the county.  Flinthill Boosters is doing their model meeting, Tim Whetstone is doing a piano solo, and a talk.  Katie Black is doing a talk, Rachel and Sarah Bellar are each doing a talk, Kanyon Kelly is doing a talk, Parker Town is doing a reading.  I am not sure which members from Longton Boosters are going or from Greenfield Wildcats.  But do know that some of their members got top blue at the local 4-H days.  I think that Club 4-H days is a wonderful thing.  Many of the younger 4-H members from all the clubs got up and did talks, or some type of presentation.  This is so neat to watch.  These kids put lots of time and energy is making their talks and also it takes lots of guts to get up in front of a crowd and do the talks.  These kids should all be commended for taking the time to prepare and give their presentations.

Did anyone catch the news at 10 on KSN channel 3.  There was a neat story about Matt Samual's son Heath.  He is now a cop in Emporia.  It was a really nice story for a very wonderful family.  I just thought I would pass along this information. ;D

The Coffee Shop / Just a Question!!
October 22, 2008, 07:29:31 AM
Ok, I want to ask you all something that gets me!  If you rented a house, you put up your deposit, pay your bill on time.  You are asked before you move out to give the landlords a 30 day notice.  You find a house that you want to buy.  You call the landlord 2 weeks before you are ready to move out.  You move out, take all your stuff.  You don't clean a thing.  You then call the landlords and want your deposit back.  You argue with the landlords that the contract didn't say a thing about cleaning the house before you move.  Do you think that the renters should get the deposit back??  Please give me your honest opinion!!!

Religious/Spiritual / Today
August 26, 2008, 06:09:01 AM
'To get something you never had, you have to do something you never did' When God takes something from your grasp, He's not punishing you, but merely opening your hands to receive something better. Concentrate on this sentence.....

'The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.' Something good will happen to you today.

I got this today and felt the need to share it with all of you!!  Hope you all have a Terrific day!!!
