Christopher Ray "Chris" Lance, age 66, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away September 28, 2026.  He was born on August 19, 1960 to Jack and Thada (Sturgeon) Lance in Neodesha, Kansas.

Chris began working at a young age with the family at Excelsior Clay Products in Fredonia, Kansas.  After graduating from Fredonia High School, he married Teresa Lidvickson.  They later divorced.  He began working at Knight Lumber in Severy, Kansas and then married the love of his life, Amy Doane.  Chris later joined Randy Ervin in Master Builders and then began his own company, Master Buildings.  He and Amy operated Ervins Cafe for six years and decided to move to Winfield, Kansas where he continued in the building trade.  He worked for Thomas Lumber in Oxford, Kansas and later for Home Lumber in Winfield, Kansas.  Along the way, he accumulated many lifelong friends.  He was a competitor and loved playing, watching, and coaching sports.  He loved telling stories, making people laugh, mentoring young men, barbeque, and going for drives down the backroads.  He served as the Severy City Mayor, on the Greenwood County Commission, and on the Winfield High School Council.

Chris is survived by his wife, Amy; his children, Mike (Debbie) Lance of Severy, Kansas, Cassandra (Jason) Meyer of Severy, Kansas, Patrick (Geri) Lance of Monument, Colorado, Megan (Drake) Brown of Olathe, Kansas, and Jocelyn Lance of Kansas City, Kansas; siblings Jackie (Lorenzo) Villa of Dallas, Texas, and DeeDee Lance of Florida; grandchildren, Kimberly, Alissa, Naomi, Yvette, Kaleb, Destyni, Maya, Danny, Stella, Reese, and one on the way, Walker; 7 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends he considered family.  He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Clifford Lance and Bylinda Lance. 

Shelley Funeral Home of Winfield, Kansas has been entrusted with arrangements.
