Robert Eugene "Bobby/Bunny" Bunyard, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on April 26, 2026 in rural Independence, Kansas.  Born on April 9, 1956 in Fredonia, Kansas, Bobby lived a life deeply rooted in his community and family leaving a legacy marked by dedication and a passion for the outdoors.

A graduate of West Elk High School in Howard, Kansas with the Class of 1974, Bobby's educational foundation was built within the Fredonia, Kansas Schools.  His career was distinguished by years of dedicated service with Wilson County where he worked as a road grader until his retirement.  His commitment to his work mirrored the steadfastness with which he approached every aspect of his life.

Bobby was known for his love of hunting, fishing, trapping, and all outdoor activities.  These pursuits were more than hobbies - they were ways for him to connect with family and friends during the many joyful gatherings that he treasured.  His love for the outdoors was a defining hallmark of his character and brought him immense happiness.

Bobby is survived by his beloved wife, Sherri (Hebb) Bunyard; they shared 28 years together until his passing. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Sarah and Chris Edwards of Neodesha, Kansas, James Robert Shinkle of Independence, Kansas, Kelli and Robert Ashby of Terrell, Texas, James and Samantha McRoy of Joplin, Missouri, Miranda and Bryce Martin of Wichita, Kansas, and Kory McRoy of Independence, Kansas.  The joy he found in family extends to his nineteen grandchildren, Cody, Katy, Karah, Casey, Jayci, Dominic, Brittany, Tanor, Macenzie, Braden, Alexandria, Chaz, Bain, Hattie, Hailey, Kaden, Dakota, Korbin, and K.C. who were a source of pride and happiness throughout his life.  Bobby also leaves behind his siblings, Jodee Bunyard and JAME Bunyard, both of Fredonia, Kansas, and Bonnnie Lassley and Sherrie Sexton, both of Severy, Kansas.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Mary (Copenhaver) Bunyard and his brothers, Billy Bunyard, Jim Bunyard, and Toby Bunyard whose legacies continue alongside his own in the hearts of those who knew them.

Services to honor and celebrate Bobby's life will begin with a visitation on Friday, May 1, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Wickham Family Funeral Home, 510 N. 7th Street,  Fredonia, Kansas 66736.  The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.at the Fall River United Methodist Church followed by burial at 12:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Fall River, Kansas.  Robert Bunyard's legacy is one of steadfast dedication to family and the simple joys of life spent outdoors.  His memory will continue to be a blessing to those who knew and loved him.
