William S. "Bill" Humphrey, age 77, passed away July 27, 2025 at his home near Longton, Kansas.  Born in Wichita, Kansas on September 4, 1947, Bill was raised alongside one brother and graduated from East High School in Wichita with the Class of 1964.

Bill's journey was one of service and determination.  After attending Eastern Oklahoma College where he rode bareback broncs and bulls in rodeos, he dedicated years to law enforcement.  He served as a police officer in Wichita and Garden Plain, Kansas and then served as Chief of Police in Garden Plain for four years.  Throughout his career, he maintained the family legacy, owning the window and door manufacturing business started by his grandfather.

His love story began at a rodeo where he met Pat Wochos--quite literally when she ran over him on her horse. They married on July 6, 1968, beginning a beautiful 57-year partnership.  Bill was known for his hardworking nature and fierce loyalty, earning him lifelong friendships while building a legacy of integrity and strength.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Pat; his sons, Scott Humphrey of Udall, Kansas and Shawn (Bonnie) Humphrey of Moline, Kansas; grandchildren, Sheldon Humphrey (Nicole Wheeler), Syrus Humphrey, Jessica Humphrey (Conner Austin), Rachel Humphrey, Maggie Humphrey, Leah Humphrey, Thai (Rebecca) Goebel, and Ali (Cody) Herman; and great-grandchildren, Amara Humphrey, Liam Humphrey, Ellery Austin, Silas Jo "S.J." Goebel, Amelia Goebel, and Jasmine Bohaty.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Eva (Alexander) Humphrey; brother, Chuck Humphrey; and daughter-in-law, Chris Humphrey.

A memorial service honoring Bill was held on August 2, 2025 at Countryside Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas.  Memorial contributions are suggested to either Wounded Warriors, Make A Wish Foundation, Tunnels to Towers, or West Elk Trap Team and can be mailed to or left with the funeral home.  Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349 has been entrusted with arrangements.
