C.J. Madison, age 29, of Howard, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly on December 29, 2020 in Rose Hill, Kansas.  He was born on December 31, 1990 in Emporia, Kansas to James and Donna (Jorgenson) Madison.

C.J. was raised in Howard, Kansas alongside his brother, Marc.  He graduated from West Elk High School with the Class of 2009.  He started playing sports when he was just 4 years old, and it became an important part of his life.  Throughout high school, he was active in track, basketball, wrestling, and football.  He was the quarterback for his high school football team, starting his freshman year and continuing through the senior year.

After graduating high school, C.J. attended Hutchinson Junior College in Hutchinson, Kansas, then Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas, and finished his business degree at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas.  After college, he coached football at several different schools including Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iow, Moscow High School in Moscow, Kansas, Hutchinson Junior College in Hutchinson, Kansas, and Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.  He then decided to enlist in the United States Army in March 2020.  He had been stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia and was getting ready to report to Fort Campbell, Kentucky in just a few days.  He was excited about the next chapter in his Army life.  C.J. loved his family and friends and will be missed by all that knew him.

C.J. is survived by his parents, James Madison of Rose Hill, Kansas; his mother, Donna Madison of Howard, Kansas; his brother, Marc Madison, and fiancee, Jeri Smith of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; his grandmothers, Carol Brooks of Haysville, Kansas and  Karen Rogers of Osage City, Kansas; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends.  He was preceded by his grandfathers, L.C. Brooks and Joe Rogers and his great-grandparents, Oline and Beatty Barrows and Carl and Florence Jorgensen.

Memorial service for C.J. will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Countryside Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas.  Inurnment will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard, Kansas.  Memorial contributions can be made to the American Legion Carter-Rader Post #0149 and can be mailed to or left with the funeral home.  Services have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349.
