While searching for more info about our area, I came across the following in the online collections of the St. Louis University Library:

1.  http://cdm.slu.edu/utils/getfile/collection/woodstock/id/1732/filename/2347.pdf

Begin at page 100, or click on "Osage Mission" in the index on left side of page.  Year is 1876, mentions flooding on the Fall and Big Cana Rivers and establishing a church at Neodesha.

Page 111 - Letter from Father Paul with accounts from 1871 including September trip from Osage Mission to Greenwood City then up the Verdigris to its sources, then to Eagle Creek/Elmondaro, to Eureka then El Dorado, down the Walnut to the new town of Augusta, then east to Fall River and from there to Burlington.  (Note -  this Fall River is not the current one in Greenwood County.  Father Paul describes it as the St. Francis Regis Chapel, between New Albany and Coyville.  There is a St. Francis Cemetery along old K-96 one mile east of the Greenwood/Wilson County Line.)

Continuing in this same letter, Father Paul relates his travels in November, visiting Fredonia, New Boston in Howard County, then down the Cana Valley into the Osage Reservation.

There may be more letters from Father Ponziglione and others who served Osage Mission online at this location.  I only searched using the parameters "Ponziglione" and "Osage Mission".  Hopefully as time goes on more of the archives at the St. Louis University Library will be digitized and made available online.

"Gloom, despair, and agony on me
Deep, dark depression, excessive misery
If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all
Gloom, despair, and agony on me"

I thought I was an Ayn Randian until I decided it wasn't in my best self-interest.
