Sir, I continue with my report.

  Rifles and Carbines  I

In 1867 it is ordered the transformation of the rifles and carbines to the system "Berdan" of metallic cartridge, caliber 14,4 mm.

In 1868 the rifle “Remington” in caliber 11 mm. is adopted by Spanish Army.

In 1871, it is adopted, for the cavalry units, the carbine Remington, in caliber 11 mm. It was manufactured in Spain, but at the beginning, 10.000  units arrived from United States and in a second contract, 50.000, with small differences of the Spanish pattern 1871.

  Rifles and Carbines II

In 1874, it is adopted for Engineers/sappers a model type "mosquetón". Mosquetón means in Spanish a rifle whose length is among the long of a rifle and the long of a carbine, (an intermediate length).

In 1889, the three models are reformed.

In 1873, the “tercerola” Winchester is adopted, for the Guardia Civil and Units of the royal escort. It was the model 1873, in caliber 10,75 mm. “Tercerola” is an old Spanish word that means the same thing that carbine.
