Krag for sale at local toy store - price check
« on: March 14, 2006, 12:05:34 pm »
Gents happened upon a Krag full length rifle with shortened stock at local toy store.

the stock was buggered but the rifle is in 80-90% finish - bore was mirror - looks like it was someone's whitetail gun - but military sights were left in place.

Is 340.00 a fair price for this due to buggered stock?

There are a few companies that make supposedly government standard 30-40 ammo - can I use that modern factory ammo or get 30-40 dies?

Tks

Pony,
Price is a tad bit high, but any krag with a full lenght barrel and military sights is a good find. You can restock her to bring her back to her glory. I find that reloading makes for better accuracy than the factory loads out today. They seem to print high out of my rifle. I have some brass (20) that I am not using. Drop me a message and adress and I will get them to You.

Thats about the average price for  a chopped sporter.  GET IT!  Most full length rifles seem to run around $900 regardless of condition.  Stocks are available from S&S and Gun Parts.
Civilize them with a Krag . . .

Check the locking lug on the bolt for cracks.

Krag Carbines fall into specific serial number ranges.

They've been faked a long time - and before that - there were the 'DCM' Carbines made up from left-over parts with M1903 barrels added.

The Krag Carbine barrel was cut and crowned from the longer rifle barrel and the front sight is dovetailed and soldered into its position - looking like it smoothly 'rises' from the barrel's top.

If it has a front sight that's been slipped over the muzzle and pinned - it's the later M1903 barrel.

Before you buy - do some research.
