Question for GAF Historians
« on: January 26, 2006, 06:40:49 PM »
Grey Traveler GAF #358 reporting for duty with a question.

I purchased a gold Indian Wars Kepi Cord from Coon Creek Old West to enhance my Indian Wars impression.

How is this cord worn? Do I remove the leather chin strap and brass buckle that is normally kept above the brim of the Kepi, and hook the Kepi Cord around the buttons on each side of the Kepi therefore wearing the Kepi Cord where the chin strap used to be?

Or do I wear the Kepi Cord on top of the chin strap?

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Before early 1884 - Officers wore a leather chinstrap.

During January and February of  1884 - Officers were to provide themselves with gold straps.

Of course - this was largely decorative - and once affixed - most were never 'adjusted' again.
