9 Shooters this year.  24 shots at 8 steel buffalo gongs spread out from 100 to 500 or so yards at Random intervals.  Also we had an off hand side match, 3 shots at a small bucket target at 125 yards.  The Buffs were shot off cross sticks benched in the fort.

1st- Ken Haines, the only one to hit all 8 with 17 rounds fired.    1881 Marlin 45-70.
2nd- Donnie Luetkemeyer-7.    45-70 Sharps
Multiple folks hit 6.

Spotting was very difficult this year, it was determined that taller than normal broadleaf grass was holding down the dust.  Next year the target areas will be cut short to prevent this.  We're still learning.

Donnie won the Bucket.  Only one hit was scored by several shooters, but Donnie was acclaimed by all as the winner as his hit came under the worst conditions!

Everyone liked the Buffalo Format, the only change thought needed was the shorter weeds.  The Bucket match may be tweeked a bit, perhaps brought in closer, holding these big rifles steady off hand is quite a challenge in itself!

I have competed in the big bore long range match at Baker Montana. I have won it twice with my Marlin double set trigger 1881 .45-70. Lead bullets and black powder off cross sticks. Targets are from 225 to 547 yds.

Sure looks like jacketed bullets on the bench!

I believe they are lead bullets with the reddish colored polymer coating that covers the entire bullet.
