What'd it take to make an older JM Marlin hold up for Cowboy Shooting?

I've been looking at 70's, 80's 1894's.

What'd it take to get these guns "cowboy ready"?

Are there any smiths currently slicking these up?

Silver Creek Slim

I have 2 of them that I have used in cowboy action shooting. I did nothing with them besides shooting and cleaning.

NCOWS 2329, WartHog, SCORRS, SBSS, BHR, GAF, RBCS, Dirty RATS, BTBM, IPSAC, Cosie-in-training
I love the smell of Black Powder in the morning!

I also have 2 all I did was install a spring kit
It will give you a lighter, smoother action and slightly lighter trigger pull.
I also added a one-piece Firing pin, and a cross-bolt safety delete.

OK.  I'll wade in just a little bit.  There simply isn't much to be done to a Marlin.  A little judicious rubbing-n-buffin and change to after-market springs and one piece firing pin.  Eventually you may suffer the dreaded "Marlin Jam" but that is a whole different subject/thread.

Thanks guys. Sounds like no particular reason to be scared of them.
