Gentlemen,  A question for anyone who hosts buffalo shoots, what sizes are your targets?  Length and height measurements would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Cap'n Redneck

Our long-range buffalo-gong this side of the pond is scaled 1:1 (life-size).
Made from 10mm Hardox steel it will tackle anything short of .50 BMG.
It used to be suspended 467 yards from the firing line.
After a welding of the above mentioned .50 BMG-holes it is now awaiting
re-location to greener pastures with opportunities for even longer shots...

About 21-22" long and about 17" tall out of 3/8" steel. One herd of 25 at 200-275 yards, a second herd of 25 at 300-385 yards. Farthest ones are a challenge.

Are yours mild steel or AR500?

Just mild steel.

I got a good deal (20 cents/#)on some mild steel 3/8" plates about 20 years ago that were big enough to cut two of the buffalo from. Those critters have stood up to many years and many hits from cast bullets from 44-40's at close range to 45-110 550 gr. bullets at the longer ranges. Some get a bit of a bow to them so we turn them around from time to time. Feet are about 4" square and occasionally a foot will get knocked off but easy to weld back on.

Are those the ones use at the KVC shoot?

No, we just use them here at my range for private matches. There's usually 10-12 or so shooters and that's about as many as we can handle since we shoot single shot 22's at smaller buffs in herds of 25 at the same time.

If I can get a picture of the buffalo herds off my old IPad I'll post it.

Where's KVC?

Niederlander

Somewhere in Kansas.  I've not been there.  (Yet!)

Lebo kansas.  We shoot in October.    Check out NCOWS board for deets.   Ours are 1/4 size steel.  Weigh about 60 lbs.   fun time.   I absolutely will not poison anyone with phosphorus next year.

Niederlander

How big are the targets?  I think 1/4 size would be about 18" tall?

I will see what I can find out.
