I never have hunted, had an invite to go on a wild hog hunt once.
The guy used a replica Sharps 54 cal. percussion carbine.
Being a single shot, he said he carried a replica Walker
revolver backup.
The Hog season here is open, so Black Powder was not the reason it was his desire  :-X
Being IF he misses, FTF or wounded, he'd have the Walker  ::) for follow up, adequate I suppose certainly not the most reliable choice.
I decided to pass, thinking this fellow is a few sandwiches short of a picnic.

They tell me shoot it where it needs shot and all is fine.  I think a lot of the stories are people trying to make their danglers look bigger.  ;D

If it was the problem the gun writers claim it is then the news would be full of stories of dean and maimed hog hunters.   :)

Watch the videos of the control people mowing them down from helly-copters with AR-15's, not the best platform for perfect shot placement.  ::)

Quote from: Delmonico on November 26, 2025, 02:09:55 PMBrother has run a couple with 270 and the Barnes on frontal chest shots, that don't exit but tend to stick on the skin in the back. But never need tracked. LOL, he shot one in the neck this year and a chunk of vertebrae went into the opposite shoulder and stayed, kinda mess the shoulder up.

Our Pastor at church was telling us about the deer he got this season. Direct frontal shot, .308WIN, he did recover the bullet from just under the skin at the rear of the belly. I don't know what weight or kind of bullet, but I'm sure it was a factory load.

I've never had a shot like that, mine were all broadside or quartering shots, all exit. Most were PMC 150gr factory loads in .308. (my dad bought about 20-25 boxes of the stuff when he bought the rifle I eventually inherited-still using it up.

Afternoon all, for those recovered from the chow coma.

55 and sunny here. A little lingering fog in the canyons and gullies higher up.

Finally got around to shooting the HK. Mixed results. I only had one brand of ammo (white box 115gr fmj), but they were shooting about 6" low at 10 yards. Results verified between 2 shooters. Sights are adjustable for Windage, but not elevation, naturally.

We have about 2 inches and pretty well done.

Brown Dog was happy.

Oh, as a warning, while the cook is napping do not eat the cornhusks from the tamales out of the garbage. Not a good idea, did not look like fun.  ::)   Maybe not as bad as peach pits and sure not as bad as razor blades, but,,,,,,,,  ;D

Well we survived the Thanksgiving events! Had 30 people here for dinner Thursday night and it was fantastic. The last of the guests departed today and all made it home ahead of bad weather. I did get a new locomotive, one of my g'nieces [6 years old] bought me a Hot Wheels locomotive! Uncle Kevin was pretty much buried in hugs the whole holiday time. I'm glad for even the "sticky" hugs from the little ones, that's why I like good shirts that can get tossed in the washer. Worked yesterday and today, the gunstore was busy both days, Black Friday is popular with hunters around here. Got home, took a nap, had a dinner of delicious leftovers and studied my lesson for Sunday School tomorrow. My g'nephew Lucas is hoping for snow so they don't have school Monday, typical 13 year old. My opinion is the weather folks are using a Magic 8 ball for their predictions.

Just the Boss Lady and I for the feast.
Still there are leftovers to enjoy.
I took a break and had a BBQ sandwich at Fatboy's a local favorite owned by an acquaintance of ours yesterday.

Ain't been anywhere, only one here was Nick to shovel. My choice had places I could have went.

Had tamales T Day, someone ate the husks while I was napping, was worried but everything came out alright. ::)

Did country ribs and rice on Friday and Pizza last night. Freezer is getting full of ready to heat stuff.

Ended up with about 2 inches with ice under.

Maybe enchiladas today, not sure, lots of choices.
