Ha.   When I was 15, I had size 13 extra wide feet.   Family referred to me as the resident sasquach.   Oddly by the time I was 20, i had much higher arches and am an 11 D.   Up until a few years ago, I had some hair on hide mocs i got in Canada, made for my size 13 extra wide.   Sadly they were way too big at that point and wife said she would tackle me if i tried to wear them in public.

Well the original pics by Virgil Lantey don't show up any more and I don't recall what they looked like.  I still love my stovepipes but have been wanting to get some Townie shoes, mostly for banquet or dress-up situations.  I figure most folks back in the day who are dressed in a nice vest, cravat tie, frock coat and a top hat or such, are not likely to be tucking their pants into boots.  Pants over boots is better but I figure those folks would have shoes.    So I bought these on Amazon, $69.95 ArcBrothers (chinese).  Bought them a size too large and then put a cushion innersole in them and they fit great so lucked out there.  I did shoot one match with them and they passed the test.  I found others like this online, but even though lace-up they all had zipper sides, which I could not abide.  Mine have a cleated rubber sole, not obvious, that I will accept for safety and comfort but at least that's not visible.  I couldn't find any reference to whether brogans of the period were likely to have the holes in the toe or not, so I hope that isn't too far of a stretch.

I bought a pair of Fugawee Congress Gators about 15 years ago.

They were the bomb, cooler in Florida Humidity and heat over my
Cavalry Boots (which I bought in 1990 and still have)
The Fugawee's a nearly twice the price I paid back then, but well-made and have serve well.
However, I now wear Amazon Chelsea Boots because I need the
 traction security over the all leather sole of the Congress Gators.

Safety and Comfort trump Authenticity ABSOLUTELY.  At my current degree of "seasoning," Slipping, Tripping or Stumbling and falling simply ain't worth it.  If anyone wants to question the soles of my shoes, I will gladly show them.  Very Very HARD!!

He makes some sizes from period shoe lasts, and the quality is top notch. A little pricey, but most reenactors who have his shoes just rave about them.

I do agree on finding something safe to wear. These are leather soled so your traction may vary...
