What is the difference in new police cartridges?

I am confused on this one- I was always understanding the Colt New Police was in .32 Np. It could chamber .32 colt but was not recommended. Then the Police positive changes are confusing as well.

Here is the difference

Left - 38 Colt short New Police   Bullet diameter .358 inches  modern loads

Center - 38 S&W - Bullet diameter   .361 in   

  Right- 38 special (reload)     Bullet diameter  .357-8

The .38 Colt New Police is the same cartridge as a .38 S&W with the exception of having a flat nose bullet. Colt didn't want to put .38 S&W as the caliber marking on their pistols, so they came up with the .38NP loading.

Brits called it the 38-200 because they used a 200 gr lead bullet in their Enfields till the Germans pulled Hauge rules on them in WWII and they went to a 150 gr FMJ.   If I remember right the original BP loads were 200 gr and they went to 150-160 with smokeless for the most part.

I read somewhere that the jacketed bullet the Brits used was around 178 grains.

So the people using Mustard Gas were complaining about a lead bullet at what, 600 or 650 fps?

Another was the shotgun the Doughboys brought in 1918.  The Germans complained too horrific for use during WW1 .


Ironically , they  were first to use , * poisonous gas * 

* France was the first to actually use Gas , but it was nonlethal Tear Gas.

I had ready the Germans paid bounty for killing capturing a soldier with a shotgun back then. Wasn't there have no fact checking in place.

General Pershing replied that, henceforth, any Germans caught with flamethrowers or saw-bladed bayonets would be lined up and shot. As far as is known, no American or German POWs were executed under such circumstances "

Morning all.

Currently 45 and clear today.

My mother is back home in California now, probably going to sleep the rest of the day.

Went on what will probably end up being the last fishing excursion of the season last night. Naturally, I forgot the tackle box. So I shoved a Slim Jim on a sinker I had rattling around the floor board, and pulled out some crawfish. I ultimately let them go, since I'm not so fond of seafood.

I made some applesauce last night out of a bag of apples that was bought and then forgotten. Only ended up with a jar and a half, but it came out pretty good.
