Screw it, latest research, my PPE, (face shield, ineffective)! Karma bit me bad this week, no longer volunteering at UIHC, only volunteer opportunity at this time, backup DAV driver for VETS. Nebraska Division GAF Muster, won’t wear either mask or shield.

Last week, sent an email to my siblings, walking away from UIHC as a volunteer, shifting to DAV (Disabled American Veterans) driver, this is where I belong! It is my own personal observation. This week, had a discussion with DAV & VA Volunteer Coordinators. VA is ramping up for Volunteers to take over shuttle route in town. Understand, I am the 1st Volunteer in the building! The VA coordinator told me, I want/need you, but at this time, we need you as DAV driver, & until other volunteers come back, you are a DAV driver!
This week proved them wrong, After dropping off patients, went to Volunteer Services office & stuffed & sealed envelopes for 2.5 hours, when one of the patients I dropped off came up for a meal ticket, I told her, I was done, she said “hell no” you can give me another half hour while he eats! The office was stressing, 10,000 mailings dropped off to an office responsible for mailing 1500 a day. By example & reflection, I gave them the path for the 10,000 mailings to be completed in 2 days! While working in office, realized they were attempting to reopen Volunteer Services, waiting to see the proposal. I submitted one 6 weeks ago.

This SOF, (stupid old fool) is between a rock & a hard space. Kicked out as a volunteer from VA mid March, adapted late April. Volunteered for 29 shifts, 150 hours at UIHC. From 7/24-9/29 found another way to volunteer at UIHC.
Early August, sent an email to VA volunteer coordinator laying out reintegration of volunteers. This SOF pushed to serve, & became the 1st volunteer back in building as DAV driver. Wasn’t OK with it, pressed for more, given OK to report to Volunteer Service office. 1st day dropped in office on 10/2, office was stressed, normally deal with 2000 mailings a day, Tuesday 12000 dropped. Put to sealing envelopes. Eventually Nurse Manager came to me & asked, you are extremely proficient, where does it come from? I told her, I report to Escort Office, hang my coat, see 4-6 volunteers, go to 3rd floor to sign in, see a single person with a stack of mailings they can’t complete, so I stayed up there to help out. Her reply, was crap, we have 4 people sitting in an office for most of the day.
This week, volunteers back in hospital based upon my guidelines! Want to operate locally, but accept the corner I have painted myself into.

Trying to stay positive, in DAV & VA as Volunteer. Shutdowns higher now then before. Went to Sheriffs office this AM to renew carry permit, blinds pulled, called phone number posted. The office closed, instructed to copy driver’s license, carry permit, & send or drop off with application + $25 in drop box or mail. The office is totally behind glass with a pass through beneath, & they are not in operation! What’s wrong with picture?
Method to my madness, a +60 year old in a hospital, will be close to the front of the line for vaccine. This stupid old fool is averaging 30 volunteer hours a week.

Vaccinations, Federal vs State; who is performing better, Federal!
Received my 1st dose from VA on the 13th, 1 of 12 Volunteers to take it. Understand, at 62, I was one of the younger, oldest 82, none of us should be there, but we did without vaccination.
Not notifying my family med doctor I am vaccinated, waiting to see time differential.
Took 3 weeks for VA to use staff allocation, patient vaccinations continue, about 70 per day.
To all VA Veterans, you have 2 paths for vaccination, VA or state, VA is best bet!

Got my first shot 3 weeks ago from regular Dr. My second shot will be in 1 week from same. I am +75 disabled vet and haven't had a VA apt in well over a year. Tried to get an apt 6 months ago they had the office closed and someone came out of the door and told me to call for an apt, called and still did not get apt.

wildman1,

I'm a 72 year old Vet who's never been to the VA. The big scandal some years back started in the Phoenix VA hospital and that's where I'd have to go.

Sad because 25 years ago I drove a dear friend (Korean War vet with the Marines) to many appointments at the VA in Tucson, AZ as he fought cancer. He thought the people at the VA were great. I fear times and Covid have changed that.

I am in the middle of this, seeing mass mailings describing priority to thousands of veterans/patients in region, laying out priority for vaccination.
I see & understand the big picture, I was vaccinated on 1/13, 1 of 12 volunteers, at age 62, I was the 2nd youngest! Oldest age 82! None of us should be there, but we are!

Ok, now really explain to this old country boy that has been in this mess from the start exactly how building herd immunity is exactly going to induce Darwinism? It's not. Now what gets me is how in this day and age when any information from around the world is really a simple click away, why we seem to be so gun shy over this issue. This issue as it's presented by the mass hysteria media in this country is a hoax, not the fact that SARS-CoV-2 (CoVID19) isn't out there, it is and has been for many years. In case you haven't been following lots of information from all over the globe, SARS-CoV-2 is the exact same as SARS-CoV-1. Believe the hype if you wish and hide in fear, but I'll live my life unchanged and unaffected. Turn off the mass hysteria box and live your life bravely.

Good on you Wild Billy Potts!!!!!!!!!

421,000 dead would beg to differ . . .

Statistically that is 15% of the normal U.S annual mortality rate.

I've tried to keep up with all "sides" of the Covid issue and I am still baffled.

Something is out there.  Is it as bad as it is being hyped?

I and Anastasia had something that matched all of the symptoms in Oct. of 2019: 3+ months before Covid19 reached the U.S.

There is a 'bug' and it can be fatal; And it has been hyped for political purposed. (Like any other crisis.)

For 99% of Americans; life goes on.

The search for the truth can be very frustrating.

yeah there is something out there and its not nice but the lies from afficialdom go unabated,

how many of those 421k are normal flu, co morbidities etc, etc  then why are we banned from using stuff (hydroxychloroquine fr instance) that has shown to be effective at reducing mortalities (and I do mean banned - two days after Trump mentioned he was taking it Aussie states passed legislation outlawing the use or doctors prescribing - Clive Palmer - who they hate almost as much as Trump - sourced and donated 30 million doses to our government and it remains locked up in a warehouse while people die)

   - we are told that exposure to sunlight and heat kills the bug then we get locked up inside in the cool.
What about doing things to strengthen immune system no mention of that (vitamin C , D  Zinc
Spend a couple hours listening to Judy Mikovits and Dolores Cahill - nobody needed to die from it .........................

I should have worded that different we have been scammed not its a scam - this whole thing is for money and control

I finally found my county listed on the State site ...It had been omitted as No vaccine was available ( temporally )
So the County is not taking appointments
Tonight I was able to sign on to site in my county ( imagine that ) THEY SAY  they will contact me when more vaccine is allocated
to my County. That may be next week or later in the month ???   Course I'll also keep trying to reach them too.

Several friends have been successful and have their first dose

when planets align...do the deal !

I knew I had 2x paths for vaccination, federal through VA, or State of Iowa. Iowa am phase 1B, obese diabetic. Waiting to see time differential between the 2. My spare time is going to decrease. I was one of the key people that got 3rd floor Volunteer Services back in the hands of all Volunteers, Will also be a key person to take back escort office!
Yesterday winter storm warning kicked off, sent an email to a coordinator stating I would come in if needed to cover no shows, was called in. As we shift to taking over escort, they are waiting for us to have 2nd shot before we can escort!
I am the most unique of Volunteers, I can drive, worked both escort office & services office, & Information desk at 1 other clinic in Iowa City, plus will jump in & assist in anything 4x supervisors in VA involved with, also will do whatever they request.
My plan on retirement last June volunteer 20 hours a week. Sent an email to the 3 coordinators, will support this transition up to 40 hours a week!

I've had it and it ain't fun, but it ain't as bad as it's been hyped. I've been sicker with the flu, but the after effects seem to go on and on and on....

But, hey, the great part is it's pretty much cured cancer and heart disease as a cause of death here in the US!  ::)

Starting to see both paths, Federal (Veterans Administration) & state. Local VA sending out 1000 letters a day assigning priority to all Veterans serviced, now up to last name beginning with “L”.
State, (University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics) sent me an email, you will be notified when you are in line for vaccination.
As of today, 20% of Iowa are eligible for vaccination, (660,000), state is getting 46,300 vaccines a week, so minimum 14 weeks for this phase.
VA currently holding to 75 & older, younger with morbidity.
IA dropped to 65 & older with morbidity.
Any VA patient has 2x paths, most likely VA 1st!
As a Volunteer, I had my 1st through VA on 1/13. Curious to see time between VA, & state. 2/2 have appointment at UIHC, in house, doubt will be offered!
VA, any Veteran over 75 with an appointment will be vaccinated if desired!

Like most everyone, I am rearing to get out to shooting events I missed last year, - for things to return to normal like pre-pandemic. (If things will ever return to pre-pandemic lifestyle.)
BUT, if I can't get vaccinated until April or so, then it will be no go for events before vaccination.

I took a calculated risk last June 2020 to attend the GAF Muster, but did not shoot. Last month took another calculated risk and attended a funeral at some distance. We did not stay to socialize, but returned home immediately.

I cannot put my family at risk. So here's hoping getting signed up for vaccination in the early rounds happens in time to get me OK'd for attendance by March at the NCOWS Congress and Convention, and the Jerry Barnes 2-Day Shoot. (Assuming they aren't cancelled due to ongoing Covid concerns.)
