UBERTI SAA hand spring fix
« on: February 03, 2020, 09:55:43 AM »
On Saturday, on the last stage of a Cowboy Action Shoot, on the last round fired from my Uberti SAA revolver, the handspring broke!

I fixed it with a modification I've done to all my Pietta Cap and Ball revolvers.

Here is a write up with lots of pictures on what I did to fix it.....Now it is just like a RUGER!

 ;D  Well heck Roy   ;D

And here I was ready to explain the how too's to replace your Han Spring.  Also to suggest and explain you should skip replacing the flat spring and just convert to Coli Spring and Plunger, alia Ruger.  Once converted to CS & P, it's a "Forever" fix.

However, I'm gonna disagree wid ya.  The hole, spring and plunger should NOT be centered on the Grip Frame screw hole.  It should be centered to the Hand.  Centered over the screw hole and you have asymmetrical pressure on the hand.  It "may" drag.  Normally the Hole and S&P should be off set to the frame side.  Centered on the Hand.  AS long as it works however, you're good.

You are correct! On the first one I centered it. The second one I moved it over a bit because I thought it might drag. But in the end they both work identical with no noticeable drag. When I get a chance I'll update the article.

Thanks

Plus, when trying to drill the hole off center to the right of the grip screw hole, centered to the hand, you have a little more meat (space) to work with.
