Cleaning in the field.
« on: February 03, 2020, 09:39:40 AM »
A brief thought pass thru the brain pan last night at work. How does everyone clean their BP guns in the field or at the range? I understand that hot water is the best for cleaning, but not everyone has the luxury of shooting off the back porch, and able to walk in the house for a quick swab. The place I shoot is a big empty gravel pit, obviously without running water. I'm thinking perhaps a couple thermoses of hot water? Dropping the brass in a jug of soapy water is easy. but cleaning the barrel? I should add that when I go shooting, it's not with just one or two guns, I tote along an armada for 4-6 hours worth of shooting, usually. Just wondering how you guys deal with cleaning bp at the range.

My rifles and hand guns leave clean chambers.  Only thing to worry about is the bore.  I have a take down brass rod.  I wrap a patch on it, soak the patch with PAM and swab the bores.  Done

These days I usually just spray inside and out with straight Ballistol and put the gun in its sock.  I will clean it anywhere from a day to a month later.  If I am planning on "cleaning in the field", I take a small plastic container with patches pre-soaked in moosemilk ( 10% Ballistol ).
