Practical but..
« on: January 18, 2020, 04:08:15 PM »
My first try at making a cartridge belt. My stamping tended to drift and my burnishing has a long ways to go. I enjoyed the sewing but will aspire to a more traditional method with a smaller needle and thread. It's a start and I enjoyed doing it.

Looks good. If you want a little extra direction on hand stitching, here's our thread on it. There's a lot of information in that thread.

Hi

Right now I'm making all black belts using Vinegaroon.  I use black markers to draw guide lines for the tooling etc.  After you use Neatsfoot oil, on the vinegaroon, you can't see the guidelines.  How do you mark for natural leather like he's using?

I use a pencil to lightly mark.

Good for you, 67th! I keep telling myself to start in on something, then I look at some of the beautiful, stunning work of real artists and figure I would just be ruining good leather! ;) Good luck on your future projects.

I tend to use the grooving tool to follow the edge of the leather and keep a straight stitch and it lays the thread down in the groove for a nice finish.
