I?ve got to agree with you, its an age/generational and interest thing. Money may keep some folks from attending events but there?s too many trendier, cooler things to occupy the mind of the masses than boring old history. I love museums and libraries and enjoy military history. I still want to get to the WW2 museum in New Orleans.
If you really like museums and spend time reading etc.  Plan on 2 or 3 days at the WWII museum.   The wife and I have been twice and did not get thru all of it and they keep building more.

todays shooters don't appreciate walnut and carbon steel. there's a generation and a half been brought up on plastic guns. plus teachers don't teach history the way they used to either. when's the last time we had a good cowboy television series? just my two cents.

Nicest museum I?ve been through was the huge one in Cody, actually 5 museums. My wife and I drove out there for a week and a half. Stayed in Cody, ate at the Irma numerous times, drove into Yellowstone for 4 days. Super place, a great trip. Also went through the NRA museum in Va. The biggest gun museum I?ve ever been to was the J.M. Davis Arms Museum in Claremore, OK. WOW.

+1
Also love the Museum of the Fur Trade at Chadron NE, Forts Laramie, Larned, Atkinson and Hartsuff (of course),  and Mount Vernon, Monticello, and the Hermitage.

I'm not certain it's a generational thing. When my kids were young their most common quote was, "Awe, Dad, Not another museum!" Since they've grown up one has worked as a living historian and one shoots CAS, GAF, and Zoot. But in their cases it was definitely an acquired taste.

CW reinacting was never big around here, so I don't know that it's numbers have suffered the way they have in some areas.

I gotta ask, with the California AntiGun craze, how does that work? Even finger guns are outlawed.
I have no idea, I don't live there.  :-\

potentially... anyone with a hand is Armed

(I know this is somewhat out of the context you intended, but...)

Considering more people are killed every year with hands and fists than with guns, maybe that's true

@ Major, I don't fear folks with empty hands a threat, as much as I do a Proctologist/Urologist with hooks for hands.

Hi

I've been to the Davis Arms museum twice.  Its a really good museum.  When you go, stop at Hammett house and have pie.  The Will Rodgers museum is also great.

https://www.hammetthouse.com/

I would also suggest going to the National Cowboy Museum, and when you do, get Phil Dame to be your docent, or at least get one anyway.  It's a lot more interesting that way.  There's a cost, but ask before you get here.

If anybody in the GAF Shows up, shoot me an email and maybe we can get together.

Interesting....

I took this excerpt in context from the article ...

"... The Hainesville Civil War event is several years old and followed last June?s abrupt cancellation of Civil War Days, a Lake County Forest Preserves district event in Wauconda. The Lakewood Forest Preserve Civil War Days event was halted on June 10 due to concerns about safety and event appropriateness.

But after a social media firestorm and discussion about pending contracts and legal issues, the nearly three-decade-old Civil War Days was reinstated. But it still didn?t take place in July and it?s unclear if Civil War Days will happen next summer.

Part of the controversy surrounding that event focused on the presence of the Confederate flag and its ties to slavery.

As was asked by the OP .....  the ? answered ....  No ! sadly  it is not as we knew it
