ZZZZZZZ' PHEW ZZZZZZ' PHEW ZZZZZZ' PHEW!!!
« on: September 22, 2019, 07:55:52 AM »
??? ??? ??? What's with thee 'Subject Heading' Choker? Probably what yer asking.  This forum is getting to be like sitting in a chair watching someone laying in a bed just snoring away. Getting about as boring as attending a funeral for someone you don't know, maybe never even heard of. When I started viewing and joined the forum back around 2009 or so, there were a lot of interesting posts, informative posts-just a forum to learn and be entertained. Anymore, some days I don't even click the icon on my screen that take me to CAS City. Should write a song using the music of "Where Have All The Flowers Gone", changing the lyrics to match the degeneration of this forum. Sad, just sad what's happened to the Ol' CAS City I once knew, just sad!  :'( :'(

And you are....

Choker you just need to put a little fuel in the fire once in awhile. Go down to the saloon and steal a couple ladies away and open his own beer garden. Nickle beer will pack the joint. Maybe you can get the good professor and Forty-rod to run the joint.

PUK and MAKO, together made for excitement! I was quite new at the game when I joined. That in itself made it quite interesting, for me, and ocassionally for the rest of you Pards. Now, it is Ho Hum as most of us have learned a lot from each other, and it is all "OLD" hat!

We still have Coffinmaker and PJ to spice things up every onest and a wile. Grant, Rattlesnake Jack, still knows more  than most of us.

You are quite Correct Sir C, I miss PUK and Mako's and Steel Horses posts.

I am trying to reconstruct Mako's posts and photos on the percussion cap and cone research he did.
The trick is to find and recover the stoopid photobucket photos.

I am also trying to reconstruct and save old content from The Opne Range before it goes offline.
It's been hard so far, because standard website scraping/archiving tools are not working.

I'll have to contact Hedley and see if he can hold off closure until we can get it entirely backed up to the Wayback...

I guess the rest of us will have to stir things up instead.

I could post pictures of the cute little brown puppy that came all the was from Oklahoma by Chuckwagon to live with us.

Actually he rode in the pickup pulling the Chuckwagon.

The last one is when I caught him sneaking in my office and stealing treats.

I must confess much of my time has been spent with my FB dutch oven group, it seems few here have the interest any more.

We actually had a get together with people coming from 6 states and one couple traveling a little over 900 miles one way.

Also quite active on a couple of local history groups, seems I'm very good at dating pictures by the cars in them.

Ummm  Del?

By all means please post the stuff!

I ( and I suspect manhy others) I miss your musings on the cooking side, and I persoanlly confess to not responding due
to being overly  stupid at cooking as well as Dutch Ovens! I sorta felt that, ather than post my completely untried and uneducated
(and therefore not valid) opinion I would just shut up ... .

and experimental holstering devices

and furniture

and any cowboy related stuff and crap.... Carry Kid and a couple others used to post whatever they found...

and I will see what I can scare up on my end

I'll see what I can do.

This little fella is keeping me busy also.

Long story, but we lost Rowdy at the end of July, on the last Monday.

Coming home from the vet tired from sitting up all night with him, we decided we'd wait till after the Nieces wedding October 6th, were going to find and older black Male rescue.

By Thursday noon Riley was in possession of a friend in Oklahoma,  he is a Male and he is a rescue, so much for the other stuff.

I think that was intended as a compliment .... I'll take it that way in any case.

Once was a time when shooting a match "clean" was an accomplishment. Now it's routine.

Fact is, I have trouble identifying with today's game with low powered loads on targets almost impossible to miss. The people are NOT the same people I started this game with. They could shoot "Cowboy" and were proud of it. Our club still shoots that way with very few concessions to the speed merchants and gamers.

If I was in a location where that was not the case, I'd be a maverick and proud of it. Mention that CAS was once shot with a single revolver and the rule book fit your shirt pocket and you'll get laughed at. Under "Equipment Eligibility" it said - "If John Wayne would use it, it's OK."

I also shoot IPSC, using my .45 ACP Commanders and scoring "Major" against the 9mms. I shake my head when I mention "Jeff Cooper" and get blank looks from kids who ask - "Jeff who .... ?"

I too am getting back into that game ( its actually cheaper for me to come in as a *guest* just to shoot for fun occasionally ) but I only shoot  -casually-, using stock or as issued for my own enjoyment as I never could compete against the top dogs with their race gear.  But I digress ...
They periodically request *guests* to demonstrate that they wont shoot themselves or anybody else ....  the -stance- one instructor mandated  to newbies is -nose over toes-.

I asked how about the basic Fairbairn ? ... and got the dumb look..
Ummmm.  Modified Weaver ?   .... dumb look

Yeah, it's a different breed now. I started with a 9mm Hi-Power when I got out of regular Army (CDN) and was ridiculed until I shot my way into "A" class. Amazing how good you can get shooting 500 rds a week from 7 to 50 yds.  Later I bought a Gold Cup and shot back into "A" class with the .45 and it was easier because of the scoring system.

I'm not surprised that the current crowd doesn't know anything about Weaver or any of the other pioneers of "Combat Pistol Shooting''. The game was predicated on the defensive use of a heavy calibre handgun, emphasizing skill with combat loads. A stage could be protested if deemed "impractical". That went by the board long ago.

Remember when Canada was responsible for making holsters concealable? Odd that since we are disallowed concealed carry in Kanuckistan. That quickly became a farce with shooters wearing chest mounted holsters under winter clothing closed with velcro.

Ah, Good Mr. Choker - I am glad to see you are rejoining the rest of the class.

Class, Your assignment for Monday is to explain, compare, and contrast the styles and philosophies of
Fairbairn, Weaver, and Cooper; and to expound upon why each is significant to the shooting sport of pistol altercations.

An Opportunity for Free discussion is  available now, here.

There will be a quiz next friday on the topic  "field expediency - removing your own appendix under duress"
Remember, students are not to suture until their work is examined.
Needle, thread, sterile cotton waste, and a bottle of Scotch will be provided, but students are
encouraged to bring their own bandages.
