1866 Yellowboy
« on: January 12, 2014, 05:17:04 PM »
Since there is not a forum for the 1866 please excuse the post here . I'am going to buy an Uberti 1866 yellowboy in .38 Special the 24" sporting model . All the current pics show the rifle with a step ladder rear sight, however Uberti now only provides the 1866 with the rear buckhorn sight  . I wish they would update their pictures ! Can someone tell me where I can find a rear  step ladder rear sight that will fit this model . I guess that sight became to costly for Uberti to continue to offer ?? Thanks

You should be able to use either the Henry ladder sight (the one Major 2 referneced) or the '73 carbine ladder sight. Some of the earliest '66 rifles used the Henry style, then they changed to the '73 carbine style (shorter ladder), then to the semibuckhorn.  A lot of people are not crazy about those ladder sights since they are not elevation adjustable for shorter distances (flipping up the ladder is mainly for longer ranges) and so they change them out for the semi-buckhorn or similar.  So if you ask around you might find a used one cheap.

Welcome, and this is the correct place to post about a Yellow Boy.  If I did not have an 1860 Henry, I'd have an 1866!
