44 Special from Cimarron

Pretty happy with this one.  Played with the new safety from Uberti for 10 minutes.  Decided it wasn't something I wanted and changed out hammer and trigger for the older, more traditional Colt style, 4 click, parts from Uberti.

Spot on for windage to 25 yards.  Only needed to cut the front sight down some for my 240 gr loads to get POI/POA.



At 15 yards above, between file sessions.  25 yards ended up a similar size and spot on if I did my part.

Guns that shoot this well I think deserve nice grips.  These are Big Horn Sheep.  I sure am pleased.

I handled a version with the new safety also, but couldnt warm up to it. Seems like a pain to order a new old style hammer and hope it times right? I sure like your gun though nice shooting!

Thank you and I sure agree with your sentiments. FWIW I have changed hammers out on 6 new Ubertis recently and the timing has not changed on any of them.  Spot on perfect timing out of the box and it stayed that way after I changed the hammer.  Good machining from Uberti's.  Never happen on a Colt for sure.

Thanks.  I have sure been happy with it.  Boxed up my Colts and stuck them back in the safe...sadly.   No reason other than I don't think any of them are the guns the Ubertis are these days.

I bought a BP framed 44 Special, fit up a new 44-40 cylinder, and added fake ivory grips.  It shoots like the cross pin frame gun with either cartridge but has the smaller V notch /tapered blade front sight.  This one sits on my night stand now.

I like my guns to hit just above POA at 20/25 yards.  That gives ya some room for error at 50

I found Resin S is virtually the same weight as real ivory to the gram. I put the R-S blanks and a pair of similar sized elephant ivory blanks on a postal scale to find that out.   Same feel when wet as well...sticky.

Starline brass, Win lg pistol primers, 8.3gr Unique, 200gr Oregon Trail Laser cast lead rnfp, sized .427".

That is the almost the load I shoot. 8.1grns of Unique, 200 grms .427 cast bullet from a local manufacturer. I never get that accuracy from my Navy Arms Uberti 44-40 7.5 barrel. I was wondering if it could be 44spc barrel vs the 44-40 barrel. I was surprised to learn from looking at the Cimarron chart that the barrel bore for 44spc is smaller than the 44-40.

My reloading manuals Lyman 1967, 2002 have bullet size for 44-40 .427, and .43 for 44spc could .0045 make the difference. I always thought that the bore of the 44-40 was smaller than the 44spc. Should I be getting a 44spc with a 44-40 cylinder.  I have been doing the opposite for  years, getting a 44-40 with a extra 44spc cylinder.

I use 44-40 Cal. 200g RNFP .427 in my Uberti 44-40 and 44 Cal. 240g SWC .431 in my 44 Special.

I use .428 in all 7 of my 44-40's, never slugged a barrel. I have pushed an unfired bullet at the muzzle, none ever fell in so I figger they must be big enough, right?
