loose barrel

I have a Spencer with a loose barrel. If I tighten it up and it aliens with the action, it is cocked slightly to the left. The front sight doesn't alein with the rear.

Anyone have any suggestions?

That's what Chiappa told me to do. If yours is an original, have a 'smith do a better repair.

Greetings My Good Dolk -

I know nothing about Spencers, but I do know about lining up barrels.

If I may be so presumtpusois presumptuoud bold, may I suggest trying to cut a metal shim out of very thin stock?
Even thin brass or copper will do to achieve a crush fit.

In this way, the barrel-to-frame alignment can be maintained and thus not throw shots "off-kilter"

That info and the photo's of your 1865 are interesting.

If that is a stamp mark on right, front of receiver flat, hopefully one of the historical types here will comment.

As someone said, I think here:
"You can find just about anything on a Spencer."

But, your (original Spencer) barrel looseness is a first for me.

 that is the correct orentation

I'd lean toward the front as it was originally soldered on, may have been replace incorrectly

Hello:

Suggest you compare the number, if any, on the bottom rear of the bbl with the frame number. 

Also, is that a stamp mark on right front side of receiver, please? 
If so, what does it appear to show?

Thanks for solving the why:

You shared a five-digit number on barrel vs four-digit on receiver. 
Guess the barrel was replaced. 

Hopefully someone here will ID that stamping.

Romano, Romano and Romano for the possible work.
He has worked on more original Spencers than any contemporary gunsmith. 
His shop is large and VERY well equipped.  He can make or do anything you want.
If anyone can fit the two parts correctly, Larry can.

Don't be impatient and risk a goof (stuck half-way mess) by trying LOCTITE yourself. 
Like everything, it's the "ya just gotta" aspects of seemingly simple things that get us half-baked mechanics into more difficulties.  I have seen LOCTITE work, but you have clearly miss-matched parts, not just barely loose ones!
There are different versions of LOCTITE, which experienced people like Larry fully understand, and headspace to resolve.  He does/can!

He's in a head down, home stretch run to meet gun work/delivery deadlines for the second week of May at Fort Shenandoah and unlikely to answer or quickly respond to calls or texts. 
Most of us have learned that April & May and Sept & Oct are his busiest times.

Just a guess on my part... but the FR maybe an acceptance mark for the "French Republic"? Or, "Frederic Rex" if it were captured by the Germans.

Also, you may want to check the bore dia. at the muzzle. There maybe some wear at the muzzle, so it could be difficult to tell for sure.  If it is larger than .52 then the barrel may have come from a Spencer made carbine.
Could be the slight difference in manufacture as to why the barrel/sights are off when the barrel is tightened to the frame.

The photo of the left side of the receiver shows what might be either a stamping or a dent.

That spot is where some Belgian marks have been placed per photo's in Marcot.

If a stamping, perhaps a closer photo could help.  Thanks.
