Nickel plated 1898 Krag
« on: March 30, 2019, 04:32:29 PM »
Picked up a nickel plated 1898 Krag, typical for a ceremonial gun not cleaned very often, bore is dark, wire brush & 10 patches seeing some rifling. Thinking about taking to the range & put a couple of rounds through it. Magazine won?t open, but would likely have to single load with my star crimped blanks.

Got a lot of Nickle plated parts of ebay last year to complete a Krag build.  Seem to go for a lot less than the standard blued parts.  Wonder why the magazine won't open?
Civilize them with a Krag . . .

Put a primed shell in it, it will go bang. Extracted, didn't eject, ejector missing. Single load lever, won't engage. Magazine won't open due to carrier & follower won't move back to allow it to open. Range flooded, so could not blow out, continuning with brush, bore looking better, more rifling seen, not seeing pitting yet.
