Piettas nickel is horrid
« on: December 01, 2018, 05:15:37 PM »
I found a nice 4 click 45 by Cimarron at a great price but ugh the nickel is terrible. Ive got nickel ubertis that aren't as nice as colt but nice enough, piettas is the worst ive seen. I can see tool marks all over the frame that almost look like it was painted on. My question is if it isn't real nickel is there anyway I can polish the frame myself to blend those marks in? Or is it real nickel im stuck with because they forgot to finish the frame before plating? Has anyone polished one out? Thanks

Is this a Pistolero model?  If so, I notice that it is a LOT less than a nickle Uberti, and perhaps that is why?  I have not seen one in person.

Yes I believe it is the pistolero model.

It's real nickel.  The only way to polish out the tool marks is to strip the nickel, rubba-a-dubb-dubb then do the nickel over.  Or just live with it.

I noticed on Dixie Gun Works site that the Pietta's quite a bit less expensive than Uberti's, as in "red flag" less expensive.

I bought this Cimarron Pistolero by Pietta, new, earlier this year (Spur of the moment gun lust purchase). It was a fairly nice looking revolver, but hadn't had the sharp edges polished off and I couldn't get it to shoot worth a flip. It's gone already-

I forgot to mention in my earlier reply, I understand your displeasure with your Pistolero.  I do however, think it is somewhat unkind and a bit presumptuous to label Pietta's (ALL Pietta's) nickel as terrible, based on a single example.  Yours may well be horrible, but others and even the majority might just be fine.

My nickel model P from Cimarron are as nice as any Colt you'll ever find. I believe they have the Ford's nickel plating.

I have the nickel Pietta 7.5" with the white grips that Dixie offers. The finish may leave a bit to be desired but overall I'm extremely happy with my purchase. And it eats up my blackpowder 45 Colts and Schofield handloads like candy. ;D

I was just looking at those Pistoleros cause of the brass grip frame

so fit and finished sucked .... What did it not shoot worth a flip about it ?  .

The nickel on my Pistolero is quite nice. I would say hard to beat for a $500 gun.
