1858 Remington manufacturer??
« on: July 21, 2018, 12:57:24 PM »
Have a 1858 Remington with only Made in Italy marking. Has AZ date code so made in 1990. The only marking that I found that would indicate manufacturer looks deer head if you use a little imagenation. Uberti or Pietta? I’ve had it since shortly after it was made. Has the small grip which I do not prefer but it shot too well in NSSA competition to switch. By the way it is in 44 caliber. Any thoughts on manufacturer?

My Dear Tree -

the date code will make it easier, but the description is sort of ..... difficult.

can you possibly post photos?
*all* markings, esp the "deer head", under the loading lever, under the grips, etc ad infinitum..

Hello Treebeard,

Pietta's have a 6m x.75m x metric threaded nipples,
I believe Uberti's have 12-28 threaded nipples.
I have an Armi San Marco 1851 with 12-28 threads.

Hope this helps, AntiqueSledMan.

Thanks for the help— had a thread checker for English threads and the old nipples would not quite fit 12-28 so must be metric. I’ll look in my shop tomorrow to see if I have a metric thread checker

The smaller grips suggest it is a Euroarms/Armi San Poualo(sp?). Coud the symbol be the superimposed letters DGG? The ASPs have the smaller threads 6X.75 like the Piettas. The Piettas feel heavier & clunkier to me than the lighter more easily wielded Euroarms/ASP guns. Ubertis are in between in "heft" to me.

I believe Hellgate is correct

Euroarms was Armi San Paulo ,  Petorsoli now owns Euroarms name

The was also a Spanish Remington EN Santa Barbara

if you send a photo of the symbol, I post it for you... email is at left

Treebeard  turn the photo lengthways..it is Clearly DGG   = Armi San Paolo,  Grassi, Doninelli, & Gazzola  the Original 3 principles
Later Euroarms ... now Pedersoli

  [AZ] 1990 date code

I probably should make this clear, Pedersoli did not buy out Euroarms when (EoA) Euroarms closed its doors.
Pedersoli did buy up tools and dies for the making of some of the old EoA type arms, but up graded them to make new more authentic and/or accurate shooting firearms.
These up grades were enough that they can not be considered EoA products any longer and do not bare any EoA markings.
I hope this info help.

Crystal clear...   Pedersoli also bought both the old Springfield Armory 45/70 tooling ( from Stembridge) and H&R 45/70 tooling.
