Just picked up a Spencer Carbine
« on: February 16, 2018, 05:44:56 PM »
I just picked up a Spencer Carbine Serial Number 31779. Is there any information available for this carbine? I am in the process of cleaning it up. The barrel is shiny but pitted. Heavy patina. on barrel and receiver. Has the Stabler cutoff. Story is it was found buried in a closet in an old house.
Always wanted a Spencer!
Thanks,

Ron,

Need to see photos of your Spencer - nice sharp photos of the top of the receiver where the serial # is located.  Also check under the forearm on the underside of the barrel for the same serial # -  both serial #s should match.  May have been one of many Spencer Carbines sent to Springfield for repairs and the Stabler cutoff was added.

With a Stabler cutoff, your Spencer may have been made near the end or after the Civil War.  Photos would be a big help.
