So, after having looked a a glut of historic images and photos of extant boots that survived the ravages of time, I’m still chewing on these cathedral-stitched boots. Maybe I missed it in the archives, but does anyone have some good dates (documentation preferred) of when the one-piece front, cathedral-stitched upper boot came about? I’ve read opinions that date it from 1865 onward, gaining in popularity as the time goes by, but haven’t seen any pictures of originals dated to that time, nor photos where I can identify it as such. (Admittedly, it would be hard to see that stitching in many of these photos. 😉)
Those with knowledge about this, please let me know! Thanks!
