Morning all.

Bear hunting all day today.  Going up to about 4500 feet, in the sn*w.

TK, one of those 45-70 ARs would be perfect for your bear hunt!

Roo- you mean you can get away with taking your wife to Bass Pro and calling it a date night?

It would definitely make it interesting.  ::)  I brought my 280.  Where we were hunting, it's either a 15 yard shot, or a 300 yard shot.  Very little in between.  No luck today, though.  Got about 100 feet from one, but the brush was so thick/terrain so steep that we couldn't see it.  Then he went higher up the mountain.  Oh well.  I'm going back out alone tomorrow.

Sn*w. High in upper 30s today, last day of above freezing weather for more than a week, according to the weather guessers. Yuck.

I thought everyone could. I mean i buy her some of their fudge...;)
I could try that, but the problem is....we have to drive an hour to Springfield to get to the Bass Pro, and then "as long as we're here" then she wants to go to the mall or some other store.

That would be correct. Not a big mall, but still a whole lot of stuff that I have absolutely no use for.

I believe it is, Springfield is the headquarters for Bass Pro. Although I don't know if it's the original building.

I just remember the old paper catalogs and they would invite you to pick up your boats there if you’d prefer. That was like back in the late 70’s into 80’s

I was at the School of the Ozarks just south of Branson from June '84 to Dec '85. Went to the Insomnia theater (midnight show) at the Battlefield Mall a few times.

I've been there, I don't think it's Battle Field Mall though .   I was in Springfield a couple of times for the NCOWs National convention,
Made a point to go to the Bass Pro. for the NRA Gun Museum.
Huge place, at 1935 S Campbell Ave , battlefield mall is on S Glenstone Ave, about 2 miles away.... :-\

No, Battlefield Mall and Bass pro aren't close together. Usually about 10-15 minute drive in average traffic between them.

Coffee is hot.

'Tis 6 and overcast. "Mostly cloudy. A chance of flurries in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 20s. West wind 5 to 10 mph."

Well, here it is less than 24 hours until that day that Arcey was always reminding us of; I am not in the mood. But, in the interest of congeniality, Merry Christmas, and Happy New year, in case I don't get around to it before the change of the year - or, whatever celebratory sentiment floats yer boat.

That .45-70 semi-auto is one sweet looking item; I have always had a penchant for one off, oddball things and that fits me to a T.  If I was rich instead of so handsome, I might have to get me one.

Weather here in Sin City is winter like to a degree; some days are clear, some, like today, are overcast, some windy - more often than not, cool to cold depending on the wind speed; dry.  Prognosticators are saying we're short of rain, but that is just fine by me, I didn't come to live in the desert to enjoy the rain.

Reading back in the posts, I smiled at Good Troys rant about doing a start-up just before the holiday gap; been there, done that.  One time my employer had a large demand customer that wanted to get their new forges up before the break so that on the 26th, when they started into production, they would be up and on line.  We fed their 2.4/4.0KV switch room from a 66KV-12KV, 12KV-4KV substation.  On the 23rd, at about sunset, they were ready, so we set up our system to energize and test from the main substation.  We tested each segment good up to the circuit breaker at the plant that fed their switch room, and all was good.  When we closed the 4KV breaker to their equipment, both of our transformers grunted really hard, the 4KV breaker and the 12KV breaker tripped simultaneously, the 66KV fuses on the feed line all blew, and the 66KV breaker at the main substation locked out; the fault was so severe that it affected the system frequency for a few seconds.  And - I say AND - all of the smoke escaped from their switch room; set off alarms and called out the local fire department.  What a mess.  Needless to say, they did not begin production when they planned to.  Come to find that they had a "bolted short to ground" in their main buss - they had somehow missed it in their inspections.  The only loss to our system was the 66KV fuses, but that's what they were there for.  Man, what a show.

'Nuff war stories.  Y'all have a good Christmas.

Later.
