First Nebraska Volunteers in the SPAN AM War.
« on: November 14, 2017, 07:20:11 AM »
I was scanning through some different sites on the computer last night and came up with a good one on the SPAN AM War.
http://www.filipinoamericanwar.com/   There's some really good info as well as some outstanding pics, including some of the First Nebraska Volunteers. I even found some of those boys armed with Krags. At least I'm pretty sure a few of them have Krags. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

That's a really good website, lots of pics. Basically it's an online book. Written from the Philipino perspective, but not terribly slanted against the US.

In the a fore mentioned online book there are pics of the First Nebraskans in all white uniforms and in another pic in blue shirt and white pants. Also in the book "The First Nebraska in Camp and Field" by The First Nebraskans they mention being issued a suit of white muslin and uniforms of brown canvas. What's up with the white ones. Were these their dress uniforms?

No, they were for tropical use.

The issued Army Blue uniform was primarily wool.

Thanks St. George. Did the First Nebraska use the same Dress uniform as the Regulars?

Yes.

And in the 1980's the Nebraska National Guard had bales of them that they burned out at Ashland - no one wanted them.

Almost no one did.

The full-timer essentially burned most of it, and 'then' mentioned it.

They hadn't established a Historian and had no place to store anything, so none of it was missed.

There used to be a couple of cases of Trapdoors - but the full-timers absconded with those at the time.

They show up - the butts are marked 'NNG'.
