Looks good! It's a GAF appropriate 3 shooter. Would require a BUNCH of 3 shot clips to do a GAF Skirmish stage, though. I think Graf's is out of stock on brass, but they do (or did a few weeks ago) have loaded PRVI ammo. For cast bullets, probably .323 won't work well, but Drydock has had good results from .329 cast meant for the 8MM Steyr .

Please don't take this the wrong way Major but a Berthier carbine is a rather unattractive rifle. It may shoot like a house a'fire but good lookin, not so much. Kind of a studebaker or edsel kind of a rifle. Btw my first car was a 1960 Studebaker Lark VIII. Caught a bunch of ribbing too. An aquired taste? Just my opinion. Have fun with your new old toy. Want to see some groups when you get her 'dialed' in. Good luck on your project.

What a coincidence. First car I owned was a Studebaker Lark. Boxy thing in dull taupe tan, column shift. I thought it was wonderful.

Four doors, black, shift on the column. Built like a sherman tank.

Funny thing about mine, it developed a little quirk.
I'd go to apply gas and suddenly it would charge forward at FULL THROTLE! Only way to stop this was to let up on the accelerator. So I had two speeds in any chosen gear. Motionless, and bat-out-of-hell.

Turns out an engine mount bolt had sheared so whenever gas was applied, the engine block torqued and physically raised up, lifting the linkage between the accelerator pedal to the gas feed.

It was great fun although it scared the hell out of me.

I was sixteen and the "Cool!" factor lasted about half a day until I realized it was undriveable. So I alternately coasted and tore down the street to my local garage and had the mechanic fix it.

That car made for an enjoyable summer of freedom. Until some %@#&%!!  ran a stop sign and I T-boned him. And of course the yahoo had no insurance.
Goodbye Lark.

I believe there's somebody making reproduction front bands, and selling on E-bay. Lucky it's not the lower band, those are scarce and will bring $65+ when they do turn up, for the "non handguard" band. As for looks, most French guns are somewhat of an "acquired taste" I like mine, but I prefer my Lebel over the Berthiers.

The repros may be pricey, but likely still cheaper than originals, if you can find one. Some parts for French guns can be hard to get. My $200 carbine has about another $125 In it, so far.

I don't have any pics to post right now. It's somewhat of an "ugly duckling". The bore is good, but the exterior of the barrel and bolt has a LOT of pitting, that someone used a wire wheel to "clean up". Stock had been sanded a bunch, and something sort of shiny brushed on. It had a short, kind of home made looking handguard. I thought that Bubba had made that, since bands for non handguard rifles were harder to come by, but Von Mazur over on Surplusrifleforum told me an importer did a bunch of those years ago, just to make the bands they had fit the rifles. Had several small bits missing, that I got from Springfield Sporters, and the correct band from VonMazur, used some paint stripper and then BLO on the stock, and now it looks.....ok, but not great.

Broke the Carbine down to detail clean....
This gun is an Arsenal restore , it is loaded with Cosmoline..... there is a bazillion U tube video's on Cosmolene removal.

I was making ED's Red anyway, so my method was ...soaking in low odor Mineral Sprits .....the stuff floats off...

the Stocks another story, it too is or was loaded, the PO had wiped it down...some , but it was till sticky.

So BTW , Ed's Red Wonderus stuff....the dark bore is now clean and bright, strong rifling....the exterior of the Barrel is very good
with a little blossom surface rust near the front barrel band ( which is in route as my gun was missing this part )
Mineral Sand some 0000 steel wool made quick work of that )

I found an AR chamber brush to be perfect (with Ed's Red ) several passes and a twist in the recess of the Bolt chamber.
then some clean patches (4) until the last one # 5  was clean...then Ballistol wet patch.

The wood was wiped with mineral sprits and terry cloth,  wood was not caked outside but the barrel groove & receiver was packed.
So the Wood is in the sun ( which is playing hid & seek today ) so I go to plan B ...hair drier

more later....
